President gives assent to J&K Scheduled Tribes Amendment Act 2024

JAMMU: The Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Act, 2024 has received the assent of the Indian President. “The following Act of Parliament received the Assent of the President on February 12, 2024, and is hereby published for general information,” according to gazette statement released by the Ministry of Law and Justice. “An Act to further to Amendment the Constitution (J&K) Scheduled Tribes Order 1989; Be it enacted by Parliament in the 75th year of the Republic of India; this Act may be called Constitution (J&K) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Act 2024.” The Constitution (Jammu and Kashmir) Scheduled Tribes Order (Amendment) Bill, 2024 has already received approval from Parliament. By granting Scheduled Tribe classification, the historic bill seeks to empower the following groups: (i) Pahari Ethnic Group; (ii) Padari Tribes; (iii) Koli; and (iv) Gadda Brahmin. These communities have been requesting this for very long time.
