JAMMU: Troops of the White Knight Corps launched a series of humanitarian assistance operations across the Rajouri-Poonch region following heavy rainfall, flash floods and infrastructure damage, providing rescue, restoration and medical support to affected communities.
In one of the operations at Jaran Wali Gali in Poonch, the boundary wall of PM SHRI Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya collapsed onto several parked vehicles, creating an immediate hazard and disrupting traffic on National Highway-144A.
Army personnel reached the spot promptly and, using specialised equipment, cleared the debris, extricated the trapped vehicles and assisted local residents. Their swift action helped restore traffic on the highway and prevented further disruption to commuters.
In another operation near Khari Karmara in Poonch, heavy rainfall and strong water currents damaged a vital bridge, severing connectivity for local residents. Working in close coordination with 79 Road Construction Company (BRO) and members of the local community, White Knight Corps personnel carried out urgent restoration work.
Despite challenging weather conditions, the damaged link was restored within three hours, re-establishing connectivity and enabling the movement of people and essential services. The operation highlighted effective coordination between the Army, Border Roads Organisation and civil administration.
Meanwhile, after a flash flood washed away an iron bridge at Dara Sangla in Poonch, leaving the village cut off, an Indian Army medical team crossed the flooded stream using an improvised wooden log bridge to reach stranded residents.
The medical team conducted rapid triage, administered emergency first aid, treated an injured civilian and distributed essential medicines to women, children and other villagers. The timely intervention helped stabilise the injured and ensured medical assistance reached the isolated community.
The White Knight Corps said the operations reflected the Indian Army’s preparedness, professionalism and commitment to humanitarian assistance during natural disasters. Through coordinated rescue, restoration and medical relief efforts, troops helped restore critical infrastructure, ensured public safety and provided timely support to affected families, further strengthening the bond between the Army, civil agencies and local communities.
