JAMMU, Sept 5: Heavy gunfire shook a rural village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi area on Tuesday as an operation to neutralise a terrorist holed up for more than 20 hours started its second day, officials said. The second terrorist, who had sought refuge inside a home in Gali Sohab hamlet in the Tuli area, is being hunted down despite the fact that one terrorist was killed and two security officials were hurt in the initial gunfight on Monday. They claimed that while security officers reinforced the perimeter around the target residence throughout the night, the intermittent shooting didn’t stop. The security forces’ attempt to storm the residence this morning was met with intense gunfire, according to the officials, who added that there were no new casualties recorded.Around 2:00 p.m. on Monday, the joint troops of the police, army, and CRPF zeroed in on the residence where the terrorists had sought refuge under cover of darkness between Sunday and Monday. Security personnel arrived to the area after more than four hours of walking after learning of the terrorists’ existence, encircled them, and opened fire indiscriminately in an attempt to elude the security dragnet, according to the officials. The officials stated that once the operation was finished, the identities and group affiliations of the terrorists who were killed would be revealed. This year, there have been multiple engagements in the border towns of Poonch and Rajouri, which have resulted in the deaths of about 20 militants and 10 security officers.
According to officials, the majority of the terrorists were killed while attempting to cross the border into this side.
