IGP Kashmir Reviews Security Arrangements Ahead of Forthcoming Events

SRINAGAR: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, V. K. Birdi chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room Kashmir to assess the prevailing security situation and strengthen the overall security framework across the Valley ahead of forthcoming events.

The meeting was attended by senior officers from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Sashastra Seema Bal, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Railway Protection Force, Army, intelligence agencies and other security organisations.

At the outset, officers briefed the IGP about the security situation in their respective jurisdictions. The meeting reviewed recent security developments, emerging challenges and measures adopted to counter possible threats.

Birdi directed officers to continuously review and reinforce existing security arrangements and formulate robust counter-insurgency strategies. He stressed seamless coordination among all security agencies to maintain a proactive and effective security grid across the Valley.

The IGP also reviewed security arrangements for national highways, railway tracks and railway stations. He called for stronger deployments, dynamic checkpoints and enhanced foot patrolling, particularly during night hours, at vulnerable locations and along inter-district boundaries.

Special emphasis was laid on the protection of critical infrastructure and vulnerable sections of society. Officers were directed to intensify area domination, maintain close surveillance in sensitive areas and take preventive measures to thwart attempts to disturb peace or target civilians.

District police chiefs were instructed to maintain strict vigilance against anti-national and anti-social elements, strengthen intelligence-based operations and closely monitor social media platforms.

The IGP said effective monitoring was necessary to prevent the circulation of misinformation, rumours and malicious content capable of affecting public order, safety and communal harmony.

The meeting concluded with a resolve to ensure heightened vigilance, improved coordination and effective implementation of security measures to maintain peace and safety across the Kashmir Valley.
