SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Department has forecast another wet spell across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 10 days, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Jammu division and the possibility of flash floods, landslides and waterlogging between August 9 and 11.
A MeT official said that on August 7 and 8, one or two spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places across the Union Territory, with brief intense showers at a few locations.
From August 9 to 11, the department has predicted a few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at most places.
During this period, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at a few districts of Jammu division, while brief intense heavy showers may occur at some places in Kashmir division.
From August 12 to 17, light rain and thundershowers are likely at many places, with brief intense showers possible at a few locations.
The MeT Department has issued an advisory for August 9 to 11, cautioning that torrential rain and brief intense heavy showers could trigger flash floods and landslides at vulnerable locations and lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas.
“Torrential rain and brief intense heavy showers may generate flash floods and landslides at vulnerable places and cause waterlogging in low-lying areas,” the department said.
People have been advised to stay away from nallahs, landslide-prone areas and other vulnerable spots, while the authorities have been asked to remain alert and take necessary precautionary measures.
