SRINAGAR, Sep 27: Mehbooba Mufti , PDP chief, said on Wednesday that the BJP is “delaying” the panchayat and local body elections in Jammu and Kashmir because it has “sensed defeat” and suggested that, if it wins back power, the ruling party at the federal level may abolish the electoral process nationwide. The BJP is postponing the poll because they understand that they would be completely destroyed in Jammu and that the parties and systems they tried to impose in Kashmir are failing because the population is not ready to accept them.The previous chief minister of J-K claimed that the BJP used to “indulge in a drama” and demonstrate to the entire world that they were in charge of organising elections for panchayats and local bodies in J-K. “I believe they have stopped this farce now. On the one hand, these individuals claim before the Supreme Court that things have changed for the better in J-K since Article 370 was repealed and that the populace is content. On the other hand, the same government now asserts that J-K’s security (situation) prevents the holding of elections, she said.You can see for yourself how many contradictions there are, she said. Mehbooba claimed that the actual cause was that all of the BJP’s “experiments” in J-K, particularly in the valley, had been a failure. “They attempted to develop a hybrid political structure, but it was unsuccessful. The people of Jammu have turned against them; they are out on the streets; and they are aware that the BJP has duped them by inciting them to support Kashmir, by inflicting losses upon them, by inciting conflict among J-K residents, and by sowing Hindu-Muslim division.The BJP, according to the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, does not accept the Constitution and seeks to overthrow the nation’s democratic system from J-K. “The BJP will end the election system not only in J-K, but possibly in the entire country in the coming years,” she claimed, if it wins the Lok Sabha elections and returns to power.
