SRINAGAR, Jan 29: According to officials, Monday's lowest temperature in the valley stayed above freezing in most places, but there was new snowfall in many of the higher regions of Kashmir, and the lowlands saw torrential showers. According to officials, there was new snowfall on Monday in the north Kashmiri ski resorts of Gulmarg and Gurez as well as the upper reaches of Kupwara. They claimed that new snowfall has also fallen at the Sonamarg resort, which is located in the central Kashmiri region of Ganderbal. They said that there had been reports of snowfall in Drass in Ladakh Union Territory, on the Srinagar-Leh Highway, and in the Zojilla Axis.The authorities are pushing for the removal of snow from important roads using both personnel and equipment. Rain fell in spurts, battering the plains in the valley. Most of Kashmir's minimum temperatures have risen above freezing in recent days due to gloomy skies over the plains. The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, reported a low temperature of 3.6 degrees Celsius. The lowest recorded temperatures were minus 0.7 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam, 2.0 degrees Celsius in Qazigund, 0.5 degrees Celsius in Kokernag, and 1.7 degrees Celsius in Kupwara.With a low of -3.2 degrees Celsius, Gulmarg was the only location in the valley to experience below-freezing nighttime temperatures. For the next twenty-four hours, Jammu and Kashmir could get isolated to scattered light rain or snow, according to the weatherman. Over the following two days, there's a chance of widespread mild to moderate rain or snow, according to the report. The region is currently experiencing "Chilla-i-Kalan," a 40-day severe winter season that causes water bodies and pipes to freeze due to a cold wave and significant temperature drops.The last day of "Chilla-i-Kalan" is January 31. After that, though, there will be two further cold spells: a 10-day "Chilla-i-Bachha" (baby cold) and a 20-day "Chilla-i-Khurd" (little cold).
