SRINAGAR, July 31: A migrant worker was killed and another injured after terrorists opened fire on them at a brick kiln in Kulgam district this evening.
An official said that the incident occurred in the Kelam area of Kulgam district when terrorists targeted migrant workers at a brick kiln this evening, resulting in the death of one labourer, and grievous injuries to another.
“Two labourers were injured in the terrorist attack in the evening. One of them succumbed to his injuries before he could be removed to a medical facility, while the other was referred to the GMC Anantnag,” he said.
The deceased has been identified as Deepak Ratray, 24, and the injured labourer is Bopinder, 28, both hailing from Chhattisgarh.
The official said Bopinder was first taken to GMC Anantnag and later referred to SKIMS hospital in Soura Srinagar.
A massive operation has been launched in the area against the terrorists responsible for the attack. Several areas have been cordoned off and more troops have been rushed to the area.
The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has strongly condemned the attack. He spoke with the Director General of Police, and top security officials. He has directed the security forces to step up their operations and eliminate the terrorists.
The Lieutenant Governor posted on X: “I spoke with the DGP, Nalin Prabhat and top security officials following the brutal terrorist attack in Kulgam in which a labourer from Chhattisgarh was killed. I strongly condemn this cowardly act. I have directed our security forces to step up their operations and eliminate the terrorists.”
“Police and Security forces have cordoned off the area and launched an operation to bring the perpetrators to justice. Another injured labourer from Chhattisgarh has been rushed to the hospital for urgent medical care. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family and I am praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. J&K administration and the entire nation stand with the families.”
