Veteran Politician Muzaffar Hussain Baig Rejoins PDP

SRINAGAR, Jan 7: In the company of party leader Mehbooba Mufti, seasoned politician Muzaffar Hussain Baig re-joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday, according to reports. At a PDP-hosted event in the Jammu and Kashmir region of Anantnag to mark the eighth anniversary of party founder Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's passing, Baig became a member of the party. Additionally, he performed fatiha, or special prayers, at Sayeed's mausoleum in the district of South Kashmir's Bijbhera. According to party spokesperson Mohit Bhan, "Baig has returned to the PDP."After Sayeed passed away in 2016, Baig, a co-founder of the PDP in the late 1990s, became the party's patron. In 2020, Baig, a former deputy chief minister, left the party and was predicted to join Sajad Lone's People's Conference. Baig, a former member of the Lok Sabha from Baramulla, did not formally disclose his position, even though his wife Safina joined Lone's party. Given that the Lok Sabha elections are less than four months away, Baig's return to the PDP is significant. IAF’s C-130J Aircraft Makes Night Landing At Kargil Advanced Landing Ground

NEW DELHI, Jan 7: The Indian Air Force (IAF) conducted a night landing at the high-altitude Kargil advanced landing field close to the Line of Control (LoC) with Pakistan using a C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft for the first time. According to those familiar with the situation, the IAF's operational capabilities in the strategically important area were shown by the tactical lift aircraft's night arrival at the Kargil airfield, carrying the elite Garud commandos. Recently, there was a night landing.It was the first time a cargo plane made a night landing, even though IAF aircraft had previously operated from the advanced landing site. "Recently, at the Kargil airstrip, an IAF C-130 J aircraft made a historic night landing. The exercise also coincided with a Garuds training trip, using terrain masking en route, the IAF stated on "X." Around 10,500 feet is the altitude of the Kargil airfield. In accordance with operational needs, the military ministry has also been concentrating on improving infrastructure at practically all airfields along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), including the Advanced Landing Grounds (ALGs).In particular, it is improving the infrastructure at the airport at Nyoma and the Daulat Beg Oldi Advanced Landing Ground (ALG). The highest airfield in the world, the Daulat Beg Oldi ALG, is situated near the LAC at a height of 16,700 feet. During the severe winter months, Daulat Beg Oldi experiences temperatures as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius. At an elevation of around 13,000 feet, the Nyoma airfield may be found. J P Nadda’s Jammu visit cancelled due to bad weather

JAMMU: "Bad weather" forced BJP president J P Nadda to postpone his Sunday visit to Jammu, disappointing hundreds of eager party workers. The last-minute postponement of Nadda's tour of Jammu was confirmed by J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina, as his aircraft was unable to land at the Jammu airport because of low visibility. After making his respects at the revered old Raghunath temple here, Nadda was expected to arrive in Jammu for a day-long visit to chair an extended core group meeting of the BJP to debate and finalise the party's strategy for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections."The BJP president's scheduled visit to Jammu had to be cancelled due to poor visibility at the airport. But he will soon be conducting the senior leaders' meeting virtually, Raina, who was there at the airport, said. In order to let the waiting staff members know that Nadda's visit had been cancelled, Raina also made a visit to the Raghunath temple. 2 Wanted Drug Peddlers Detained Under PSA In Doda

JAMMU, Jan 7: In the Doda area of Jammu and Kashmir, two "notorious" drug dealers were arrested on Sunday under the Public Safety Act (PSA), according to police. According to a police official, Surinder Kumar from Chakrabhati and Mohd Sohail, also known as "Ganja," from Bhaderwah, have been charged under the PSA for their roles in the illegal drug trade and are being held at the Bhaderwah district jail under the Jammu Divisional Commissioner's order. According to him, several complaints against the "wanted" pair have been filed in several police stations around the Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban region.According to the official, Sharmail was wanted in two cases filed under the NDPS Act at the Bhaderwah police station last year. Kumar was booked in three charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at police stations in Batote, Doda, and Banihal between 2021 and 2023. He said, "Being repeat offenders, both of them posed a significant risk to the local youth, and their incarceration under the PSA will serve as a deterrent to the criminals and drug smugglers who are still at large."In a forceful move against drug dealers, the police detained five infamous drug smugglers under the PSA in 2023–2024 and filed 24 FIRs under the NDPS Act against 30 criminals in the Doda district, according to the officer. Jammu, Jan 7: An official from the meteorological department stated on Sunday that Jammu saw the coldest night of the season, with the minimum temperature falling four degrees below average to settle at 3.4 degrees Celsius. Many travellers were inconvenienced by the disruption of aircraft and rail schedules caused by fog. With a low of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, Banihal town on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway was the coldest point in the Jammu region. Bhaderwah in the Doda district was next, with a minimum temperature of 0.2 degrees Celsius. The well-known Reasi district town of Katra, which acts as the pilgrims' base camp when they visit the Vaishno Devi shrine, reported a 6 degree Celsius nighttime temperature, according to the official. Active Covid Cases In Country Recorded At 4,049

New Delhi, Jan 7: The health ministry announced on Sunday that there were 756 new instances of Covid in India, bringing the total number of active cases to 4,049. The ministry's statistics, updated at 8 am, shows that five deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours, two from Kerala, one from Maharashtra, and one from Jammu and Kashmir. Up until December 5, 2023, the number of daily cases had fallen to double digits; however, cases started to rise once more as a result of the appearance of a new variation and the cold weather. According to government sources, the number of instances reported on a single day after December 5 peaked on December 31, 2023, with 841 cases.In all, there are currently 92% of active cases that are being treated at home by specialists. According to the sources, "the currently available data suggests that the JN.1 variant is not causing an exponential rise in new cases nor a surge in hospitalisation and mortality." There have been three waves of COVID-19 in India, with the Delta wave in April–June 2021 seeing the highest number of daily new cases and deaths. On May 7, 2021, the number of new cases and deaths was 4,14,188, the highest ever.Over 4.5 crore people have been afflicted and over 5.3 lakh have died since the pandemic started in early 2020. According to the ministry's website, nearly 4.4 crore individuals have recovered from the illness, meaning that the country's recovery rate is 98.81 percent. As per the ministry, the nation has been issued 220.67 crore doses of the Covid vaccination so far. 5 Held For Unauthorised Extraction Of Forest Produce In Kishtwar

Jammu, Jan 7: In Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district on Sunday, five people—two of whom were from Nepal—were taken into custody on suspicion of taking forest products without permission, according to the police. Five bags containing a significant amount of forest produce were found after a police team stopped a car in Gulabgarh, according to a police spokesman. He added that the car was seized and that five people were taken into custody: Nawang Sentam of Kabban-Paddar (Kishtwar), Kshitij Bhutani of Delhi, Mahaver of Uttarakhand, and two citizens of Nepal, Sagar Tamang and Gan Magar, who are currently residing in Dehradun. According to the spokeswoman, a case was filed at police station Atholi under pertinent legal sections, and an investigation is currently underway. IIJSA holds seminar on ‘Scenario in Jammu Post De-operationalization of Art 370’

JAMMU: An intellectually stimulating lecture named "Scenarios in Jammu, Post De-operationalization of Art 370 in Light of Supreme Court Judgement" was arranged by the International Institute of J&K Studies and Analyses (IIJSA) Jammu. Important dignitaries and subject-matter specialists attended the conference, which was held at the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) in Jammu, next to the second Tawi Bridge. The seminar, chaired by former Jammu and Kashmir DGP Kuldeep Khoda and featuring Guest of Honour Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, AVSM (Retd), explored the complex social, political, and developmental landscape in Jammu following the Supreme Court's approval of the Government's actions on August 5, 2019.In his keynote speech, Brigadier (Dr.) Vijay Sagar Dheman, Managing Director of IIJSA Jammu, set the tone by highlighting the distinctive features of "Naya Jammu" and its development into a thriving organisation with Supreme Court approval. KB Jandial welcomed the Supreme Court's approval of Government acts and underlined its importance at the seminar. He did, however, express a want for the Statehood issue to be decided. Jandial anticipated that these advancements would lead to industrialization and prosperity for Jammu. Sumer Khajuria, an advocate, analysed the legitimacy of the adopting procedure of Art 370 and 35A, analysing the deliberate manipulation of legal provisions by the Government in 1949.Major General Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, AVSM (Retd), presented an impassioned yet firm speech, imploring the Dogra population in Duggar Land to lay aside disagreements and unify. He highlighted how these actions benefitted a particular sector of J&K. He underlined the importance of grasping the momentous occasion given by these historical shifts in order to provide the foundation for the future generations' "Naya Jammu Division" to flourish. Former DGP Kuldeep Khoda emphasised the promising future that Jammu's youth will experience as a result of these revolutionary developments. The moderator of the seminar was Arushi Sharma, a young scholar, and it was done so with complete professionalism. Srinagar, Jammu Witness Season’s Coldest Night So Far

SRINAGAR, Jan 7: Sunday was the coldest night of the season so far in Srinagar and Jammu, with minimum temperatures dropping to minus 5.6 and 3.4, respectively. Strong, dry cold waves and brisk winds from the mountains have made life even more miserable for the people of Kashmir, who are still concerned about the lack of snowfall. According to the Meteorological (MeT) statement, the minimum temperature was - 5.6 in Srinagar, minus 4.4 in Gulmarg, and minus 6.5 in Pahalgam. The lowest temperature recorded in the Ladakh region was minus 15.3 in Leh town and minus 14.3 in Kargil. The minimum temperatures recorded in Jammu city were 3.4, Katra 6, Batote 2.1, Bhaderwah - 0.2, and Banihal minus 2.2.The "Chillai Kalan," a 40-day stretch of bitterly cold winter weather, began on December 21 and ends on January 30. Locals rely on the remaining portion of the Chillai Kalan to provide enough water for irrigation and drinking throughout the summer. Everything will be OK if there is enough snowfall during the remaining portion of the Chillai Kalan; if not, the upcoming summer will be difficult for the people.
