Rajnath Singh Commissions INS Sandhayak, Warns Pirates

VISAKHAPATNAM, Feb 3: In the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the first of four Survey Vessel Large (SVL) ships, INS Sandhayak, was commissioned into the Indian Navy on Saturday at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam. Singh declared that individuals engaged in maritime piracy and smuggling will not be allowed, adding that the SVL ship will be very helpful in learning about the oceans and accomplishing the dual goals of safeguarding the nation and others. Delhi Police serves notice to Arvind Kejriwal over “MLA poaching claims”, seeks reply within 3 days

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal received a notice from Delhi Police Crime Branch officers on Saturday over the Aam Aadmi Party's accusation against Bharatiya Janata Party "of trying to buy AAP MLAs." The notification requested a response from the AAP leader within three days, according to sources. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's Delhi home was visited by a group of Delhi Police Crime Branch officers. In addition, police officers arrived on Friday to serve notice in relation to the Aam Aadmi Party's accusation against the BJP for allegedly "trying to buy AAP MLAs" and to get proof from him. In addition to Kejriwal, the police officers had earlier on Friday knocked on the doors of AAP minister Atishi's home in search of proof. But according to sources, neither of the AAP leaders was at their respective homes. Ranchi, Feb 3: On Saturday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will go to Jharkhand for his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra and pay a visit to the renowned Baba Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar. The Yatra arrived in the state on Friday afternoon from West Bengal via the Pakur district. It started in Manipur on January 14. The Yatra started on Saturday morning from Sarkanda Chowk in the Godda district, following a nightly stop at Littipara in Pakur, according to Congress spokesperson Rakesh Sinha. Gandhi said that at 2:30 pm, he will go to the historic Deoghar temple devoted to Lord Shiva and offer prayers.He will also speak at a public forum and conduct a roadshow throughout the district later on. After that, the Yatra will continue on to Dhanbad, where the pilgrims will set up tent for the night. According to Sinha, the night stop has been scheduled for Halkata in the Tundi area of Dhanbad. Over the course of eight days and two phases, the Yatra will span 13 districts throughout a distance of 804 miles. It would cover 6,713 km in total over 67 days, stopping in 110 districts across 15 states before arriving in Mumbai on March 20. Jammu, Feb 2: Former Member of Parliament and senior Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das expressed his pessimism on Friday over the BJP-led central government's ability to organise assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir by the end of September. But he asserted that by holding the eagerly anticipated elections in the Union Territory, the government should honour democracy, popular opinion, and the ruling of the Supreme Court. Speaking to media prior to a meeting behind closed doors with the 26-member J&K Pradesh Election committee, Das is the head of the cluster-IV screening committee that recommends party candidates for the Lok Sabha elections.The Supreme Court, which ordered assembly elections to be held before the end of September, democracy, and the goals of the people of Jammu and Kashmir should all be respected by the government led by Narendra Modi. If the government is willing, the election can take place, but I do not think it will. In many locations, they have shown little respect for democracy. However, it would be beneficial if the assembly polls were held here, the Congress leader stated. He was answering a query concerning the party's setup for the Union Territory assembly elections. The Congress announced the creation of five screening committees last month in order to propose party candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. States and Union territories have been divided into five groups by the party.Nearly the whole northern region of India is covered by the cluster-IV screening committee. After the first round of voting with the Pradesh Congress, we will discuss some technical matters today, such as the alliance partners and how to contest the upcoming lower house election. Over 200 workers of AAP, BJP detained during protest in Delhi

NEW DELHI: As they marched towards each other's offices at Deen Dayal Upadhayay Marg in this city on Friday afternoon, more than 200 AAP and BJP employees were taken into custody, according to the police. "We have previously devised complex plans involving multiple levels of barriers to prevent labourers from accessing the party headquarters." An official stated that about 60 BJP employees and 150 AAP employees had been arrested and transported in buses to different police stations. Shortly after chief ministers of Punjab and Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann, departed the demonstration site and told party members to demonstrate peacefully, the AAP march got underway. Wherever the Delhi police stops them, they were instructed to stop. Virendra Sachdeva, the head of the BJP's Delhi unit, led the demonstration. More than a thousand people, according to an official, were stationed along ITO and DDU Marg. DGP Swain Calls For Strict Action Against Drug Traffickers In J&K

JAMMU, Feb 2: R R Swain, the director general of police for Jammu and Kashmir, has demanded that those who traffic in drugs within the Union Territory face rigorous and deliberate punishment. At this Thursday's monthly crime review meeting, Swain declared, "The (narcotics) trade is extremely dangerous, as it not only destroys the younger generation but is also being used to generate funds to support terrorist activities." He gave the officers orders to deal with the drug trafficking offenders in a severe and organised manner.According to a police spokesperson, the DGP also gave them instructions to keep track of drug users and dealers so that more thorough action may be taken. In addition to ordering the indexing of drivers and cars discovered to be involved in the transit of drugs, Swain put pressure on the officers to compile a "master list" of vehicles that committed offences on a regular basis. SC Refuses To Interfere With Hemant Soren’s Arrest By ED

NEW DELHI, Jan 2: Hemant Soren, the former chief minister of Jharkhand, filed a plea on Friday challenging his detention in a money laundering case by the Enforcement Directorate, and the Supreme Court declined to intervene. Senior solicitors Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi, arguing on behalf of Soren, were asked by a bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna, M.M. Sundresh, and Bela M. Trivedi to petition the high court for relief. In his plea before the top court, JMM leader Hemant Soren accused the Enforcement Directorate (ED) of arresting him as part of a “well-orchestrated conspiracy” by the Centre ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, which are scheduled for months from now. Soren was forced to resign as chief minister of Jharkhand due to his impending arrest.Soren has asked the supreme court to declare his arrest to be unjustified, arbitrary, and a breach of his fundamental rights in his petition. In a money laundering case involving the "illegal" acquisition of substantial property tracts and an alleged affiliation with the "land mafia," Soren was taken into custody on January 31. On Thursday a special PMLA court in Ranchi sent him to judicial prison for one day.
