111 fresh dengue cases reported in Jammu

JAMMU: On Saturday, a total of 11 new dengue cases were recorded from different regions of Jammu and Kashmir, bringing the overall number of cases this year to 4170. According to a health official, 73 instances from Jammu district alone were recorded today. Udhampur and Kathua districts reported 8 cases apiece, Samba reported 7, Doda reported 6, Rajouri and Kishtwar reported 3, Reasi reported 2, and J&K reported 2. He said that 98 adults and 13 children are among the positive patients. According to him, the Jammu district has recorded the most cases—2765—followed by Udhampur district (513 cases), Kathua (331 cases), and Samba (271 cases)."There were 77 cases in Rajouri, 45 in Ramban, 42 in Reasi, 36 in Doda, 25 in Poonch, 7 in Kishtwar, 22 in Kashmir and 32 from other parts of the country," added the official. The official added that although dengue has already claimed four lives this season, a total of 1334 people have been hospitalised to hospitals; of these, 1206 have been discharged and 92 are currently receiving treatment. The official declared, "There are more and more instances of dengue every day. Citizens should make sure there is no standing water inside or outside their homes, as this is where the insects that cause dengue thrive. JAMMU: On the occasion of Maharaja Gulab Singh's 231st birthday, Dr. Karan Singh, a former Sadar-e-Riyasat and scion of the former Royal Dogra family, paid heartfelt homage to the man. At a celebration held by the Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust at Amar Mahal to mark the occasion, Dr. Karan Singh emphasised the importance of reexamining the life and accomplishments of Maharaja Gulab Singh. His words, "Maharaja Gulab Singh was one of the rare rulers in Indian history that left a footprint of his sovereignty in the difficult terrain of Gilgit, Baltistan, Ladakh, and Tibet," were followed by a lament that the Maharaja's accomplishments and contributions, regrettably, remained a subject of tangential concern for historians working on historical reconstruction.Dr. Karan Singh gave Kritika Khanna the esteemed Maharaja Gulab Singh Award 2023 in recognition of her achievements in the sports world at the event. No traffic movement on Jmu-Sri hghwy for repairs on Sunday

JAMMU: Travellers complained of delays on various sections of the Jammu-Srinagar highway, including those damaged by recent rains. Officials said that traffic flow on the route will remain delayed on Sunday for repairs in the Ramban district. No vehicle will be permitted to proceed on the vital route between the Nashri and Banihal tunnels after 6 p.m. on Saturday, according to a traffic police alert. It stated that the restriction would last until Sunday at midnight and that it was necessary to halt traffic in order to perform maintenance and restoration work at Dalwas, where landslides caused by intense rains on October 16 had left the road section reduced to a single lane."In view of poor surface condition and sinking of road, the NHAI has been directed by the government to undertake repair and restoration work, which will be carried out on Sunday," a spokesperson stated. BSF fires warning shots along IB in Jammu

JAMMU : According to government reports, on Saturday, BSF forces opened fire with a few warning shots when a group of individuals escorted by Pakistan Rangers approached the international border near this location. Requests for a formal statement regarding the event in the Arnia area of R S Pura sector were made repeatedly, but the Border Security Force (BSF) did not return calls or messages. The sources state that at noon, a BSF jawan fired two warning shots when a group of more than twenty persons entered Indian land with a herd of bovine animals and three Pakistan Rangers men with them.The reports added that the people went back to the Pakistani side and that there was no reprisal from the other side. Vinod Kumar appointed SSP Jammu; Joginder Singh SSP Udhampur

JAMMU: On Saturday, Vinod Kumar, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) official, was named the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Jammu. Chandan Kohli, who was previously appointed as deputy secretary in the cabinet secretariat, was replaced by Kumar. According to a J&K Home Department order, IPS Joginder Singh, director of the special security force (J&K), was transferred and posted as SSP Udhampur, while Kumar, who was currently assigned as SSP Udhampur, was transferred and placed as SSP Jammu. In lieu of Singh, IPS Swarn Singh Kotwal, commandant of SDRF 1-battalion Srinagar, was transferred and assigned to the position of director of the J&K special security force.According to the order, Kohli was appointed as deputy secretary in the senior executive cadre of the cabinet secretariat on a deputation basis for a term of four years, with the permission of competent authority. This led to the transfers and postings. According to the statement, Kohli was freed of his duties to allow him to start the new job at the Centre. New Delhi, Oct 21: Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Saturday that there has been a 65% decrease in terrorist, left-wing extremist, and insurgency occurrences in the Northeast. October 21 is now remembered annually to memorialise these martyrs as well as all other law enforcement officers who lost their lives while performing their duties.The National Police Memorial (NPM) in Chanakyapuri was dedicated to the nation on Police Commemoration Day in 2018 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in honour of the sacrifices made by law enforcement officers and their critical role in maintaining national security and integrity. JAMMU: The State Investigation Agency (SIA) has detained a major suspect in a case involving the cross-border smuggling of weapons, explosives, and drugs into Poonch from the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. He is recognised as Mohammad Iqbal son of Slam Din, a resident of the Poonch district village of Karmara. Since the arrest of three of his associates, who were found with an enormous cache of weapons, explosives, and drugs close to the border fence in the Karmara district of Poonch on the intervening night of May 30 and 31, he has been evading capture, according to officials.The SIA team discovered after conducting investigations that one Muhammad Iqbal had left the location. Iqbal was apprehended by a team from the SIA Jammu after it was determined through technological monitoring and human information that he was hiding in the Mandi region of Himachal Pradesh. Inspector Lakhvir, Inspector Vinod, ASI Deepak Bhat, Head Constable Kanhaya Lal, and Selection Grade Constables Gurjeet Singh and Susheel Kumar made up the SIA squad, which was led by DySP Rafiq Manhas. AHMEDABAD: A spy from Tarapur town in the Anand district was taken into custody by the Gujarat anti-terror team on Friday. He was a Pakistani native and had been providing Pakistani agencies with critical information. According to the ATS, military intelligence provided information about a Pakistani spy using an Indian SIM card to access WhatsApp. He was taking confidential data and infecting phones with malware. Born and raised in Pakistan, Labhshankar Maheshwari immigrated to India in 1999 and subsequently obtained Indian citizenship. His kin continues to reside in Pakistan.
