JAMMU: On Saturday, Vinod Kumar, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) official, was named the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Jammu. Chandan Kohli, who was previously appointed as deputy secretary in the cabinet secretariat, was replaced by Kumar. According to a J&K Home Department order, IPS Joginder Singh, director of the special security force (J&K), was transferred and posted as SSP Udhampur, while Kumar, who was currently assigned as SSP Udhampur, was transferred and placed as SSP Jammu. In lieu of Singh, IPS Swarn Singh Kotwal, commandant of SDRF 1-battalion Srinagar, was transferred and assigned to the position of director of the J&K special security force.According to the order, Kohli was appointed as deputy secretary in the senior executive cadre of the cabinet secretariat on a deputation basis for a term of four years, with the permission of competent authority. This led to the transfers and postings. According to the statement, Kohli was freed of his duties to allow him to start the new job at the Centre.
