World’s Highest Pangong ‘Frozen Lake’ Marathon conducted

LEH: The "World's Highest Frozen Lake Marathon," held in conjunction with the Pangong Frozen Lake Marathon, saw a successful second edition. With assistance from the Indian Army's 14 Corps and the Union Territory of Ladakh Administration, the Adventure Sports Foundation of Ladakh organised the marathon. There were 120 racers in two categories—the 21-kilometer and the 10-kilometer run—representing seven different nations. The event's chief guest, Ravinder Kumar, the administrative secretary of youth services and sports at UT Ladakh, was joined by Konchok Stanzin, councillor for the Chushul Constituency.The run's primary goals were to raise awareness of the Himalayan glaciers' rapid melting and to encourage winter travel to destinations like Changthang. Along with hosting the runners, many residents of the Pangong areas of Maan, Merak, Spangmik, and Phobrang took part in the event. On this day, they also presented a variety of cultural performances. According to the statement, the run was held at an elevation of 14,273 feet amid intense snowfall, with temperatures as low as -15. This officially gives us the confidence to name this as one of the world's hardest marathons. NIA court in Pulwama declares terrorist Ashiq Ahmed Nengroo proclaimed offender

SRINAGAR: On Tuesday, terrorist Ashiq Ahmed Nengroo, who was able to infiltrate into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in 2018, was deemed a proclaimed criminal by an NIA court in the Pulwama area of Jammu and Kashmir. On an application filed by the Pulwama Police, the court declared Nengroo, also known as Molvi, a resident of Hanjan Bala in the Rajpora region of the district, a proclaimed offender. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs designated him as an Individual Terrorist in 2022. "An officer stated that after infiltrating into Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, he was able to provide weapons, drop drones, and hawala money to sustain terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir."His name has surfaced in many FIRs in recent times for approaching the local youths on social media, misguiding them to join the terrorist ranks and also taking them with weapons transport," said the source. According to a police spokeswoman, the Jammu and Kashmir Police is pleading with young people not to be duped by activities such as receiving enigmatic WhatsApp messages that encourage them to pick up and drop off packages because doing so might land them in jail.
