NEW DELHI: The idea of “one flag, one prime minister, one constitution” is not a political catchphrase, according to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who stated on Tuesday that the BJP sincerely believes in the idea and has finally put it into practise with regard to Jammu and Kashmir. Shah questioned how a nation could have two prime ministers, two constitutions, and two flags in response to TMC member Saugata Roy’s statement in the Lok Sabha that “ek nishan, ek pradhan, ek samvidhan (one flag, one head, one constitution)” was a “political slogan”. Roy’s comments, in his words, were “objectionable”. Shah stated, “Whoever did it was wrong,” in response to a statement made by the opposition benches. Narendra Modi made the correction.Whether you agree or disagree doesn’t matter. Everybody in the nation desired it.” This remark seemed to be a reference to Jammu and Kashmir’s repeal of Article 370’s provisions. “One symbol, one head, one constitution” was not an election slogan, he continued. “We had been saying since 1950 that a country should have one PM, one flag and one constitution and two will not do and we have done it.” Union Minister Piyush Goyal said shortly after Roy concluded his remarks on the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill that although the TMC leader listed Syama Prasad Mukherjee, he ought to have also brought up his sacrifice.Roy claimed that “ek nishan, ek pradhan, ek samvidhan” was his “political slogan” and that he had taught in a college bearing Mukherjee’s name.
