Rajouri Operation: Security Forces Maintain Cordon as Search for Terrorists Continues

RAJOURI: The anti-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district entered its second day on Wednesday, with no fresh exchange of fire reported after an initial gunfight between terrorists and security forces on Tuesday evening.

Officials said the search operation is underway in Dhar Sakhri village of Rajouri, where police had come under fire while launching a search operation based on inputs about the movement of suspected terrorists. Reinforcements from the Army, paramilitary forces, and police were rushed to the area, which remains under a strict cordon.

“There has been no exchange of gunfire since morning, and the area remains sealed,” an official said, adding that there were no reports of casualties in Tuesday’s brief encounter.

Senior officers are at the site overseeing the operation, and locals have been advised to remain indoors until the area is fully sanitised.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, security forces launched another cordon and search operation in the Dharni Top area of Basantgarh in Udhampur district following reports of movement of three suspected terrorists. The Basantgarh area has witnessed similar movements in the past, including an encounter on June 26 in which Pakistani terrorist commander Haider alias Maulvi was killed.

Security agencies across Jammu and Kashmir continue to conduct aggressive operations to eliminate terrorist networks and their support structures. Officials said those involved in drug smuggling, hawala transactions, and terror financing are also under close scrutiny, as such activities are believed to fund militant operations in the Union Territory.
