RAJOURI: A six-year-old female labrador gave her life in the line of duty, in keeping with the highest traditions of the Indian army, by protecting her handler during an encounter that broke out in Rajouri, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday. The Public Relations Officer, Indian Army, Jammu notified the public in a statement that Kent, a dog from the 21 Army Dog Unit, died at the scene while leading a group of soldiers on the trail of fleeing terrorists. According to the statement, Kent was at the vanguard of “Operation Sujaligala.” In the encounter that occurred in the Narllah area of the Rajouri district in the Jammu region, one terrorist and an army jawan were slain, according to Mukesh Singh, Additional Director General of Police. A Special Police Officer (SPO) and three other jawans were hurt during the gunfire exchange. An Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police joint operation last week in the Reasi district resulted in the death of a terrorist. An officer reported that during the search that followed the encounter, “war-like stores including one AK series assault rifle with magazines were recovered.” On September 3, the Indian Army successfully neutralised an IED in the same area.
