SRINAGAR: Rajani Patil, a Senior Congress leader and member of the Rajya Sabha, stated on Saturday that the BJP’s fear is implied by the delay in the holding of the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Patil, the AICC official in charge of activities in Jammu and Kashmir, was in attendance at the function to congratulate the newly elected Congress Central Working Committee members.”On the one hand, you (the BJP) claim that things are peaceful, so why aren’t elections being held? She enquired, “What are you afraid of? Patil claimed that no one takes responsibility for or cares about train catastrophes in the nation in reference to the nine pilgrims who died in a fire on a train close to the Madurai railway station. “In the past, railway ministers have accepted responsibility for train accidents whenever they occur. But right now, nobody cares or accepts responsibility for it, she told the reporters present. We attempted to bring up the subject of train accidents in Parliament, but were shut down. “They (the government) ought to have talked about the matter,” Patil continued. “The Congress takes two positions: first, statehood should be preserved; second, the conversion of a state to a union territory is a first for the nation. We so want the statehood restored. These are our two demands: reduction in unemployment and both,” Patil added. At the JKPCC headquarters earlier, congratulations were given to the recently inducted J-K members of the Congress CWC. Former JKPCC president G A Mir and National Students’ Union of India member Neeraj Kundan are among those who have been inducted. The membership of Tariq Hameed Karra has been maintained. Mir claimed that J-K is now the highest-representing member of the party’s highest working body. “I got the chance of representation, Tariq Hameed Karra is already in the working committee and has been retained to give his services,” he said.
