DODA : Ghulam Nabi Azad, the DPAP chairman, said that the majority of Indian Muslims had converted from Hinduism, citing the Kashmir Valley as an example where the majority of Kashmiri Pandits had done the same. Azad asserted that religion shouldn’t be used for political gain and labelled anyone who does so as weak. “A BJP leader claimed that some Muslims have immigrated from abroad while others have not. Both inside and outside are empty. Islam only emerged over 1,500 years ago. Hinduism has a long history. According to the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) leader, some 10 to 20 of them (Muslims) must have immigrated from outside; some of them served in the Mughal army. Hindu and Muslim names shouldn’t be used as criteria for voting.
