Man dies after complaining chest pain in police lockup in Udhampur; inquiry ordered

UDHAMPUR: Officials said that A 35-year-old man was declared dead at a hospital shortly after complaining of chest pain inside a police lockup in Udhampur district early Sunday.In order to seek an unbiased investigation into the circumstances surrounding the victim Daleep Singh’s death, his relatives blocked the main Dhar road for more than three hours. Singh was a resident of Rathian village. According to the officials, Singh and two other people caused a ruckus and allegedly assaulted a patient who had been admitted, Sharda Devi, who was supposedly having an argument with her husband. Security personnel stationed at the hospital were able to subdue them.According to reports, Singh was apprehended and turned over to police officers who transferred him to the women’s police station just after midnight, while the patient’s spouse and another person fled the hospital. More than two hours later, inside the jail, Singh complained of chest trouble. He was promptly taken to the hospital, where medics pronounced him dead. According to the officials, when his family learned of his passing, they staged a protest by blocking the major road outside the hospital.A top police officer reported that an official investigation led by Additional Deputy Commissioner Joginder Singh Jasrotia of Udhampur was underway to discover the truth. Singh was placed in preventative custody, then later reported experiencing chest pain before being pronounced dead when he arrived at the hospital. Inside the cell, he wasn’t tortured, the officer claimed. He stated that the dead would undergo a post-mortem to determine the cause of his passing.The high-level magisterial probe has already been ordered, according to Jasrotia, who visited the demonstrators and convinced them to disperse, and stern measures would be implemented if anyone is found to have been negligent. To ensure that the investigation is carried out to its logical conclusion, he asked anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact him with any information or tangible proof.
