SRINAGAR: To commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas, a group of mountaineers from the army’s Dagger Division made history by ascending Mount Kun, which is 7,077 metres high, in a record-breaking seven days.The trip formally started on July 8 when Maj Gen Rajesh Sethi, GOC, 19 Infantry Division, waved off the squad from Baramulla. The courageous climbers, headed by Col. Rajneesh Joshi, left the base camp on July 11 and summited Mount Kun on July 18 at 11:40 am, bringing about their long-awaited win, a defence official said. The mountaineers also practised yoga at a height of 7,077 metres, making it the highest location ever where yoga has been practised, adding an exceptional touch to their feat, he said.”This amazing accomplishment highlights the tight connection between spiritual practises and physical well-being, the spokesman added. It also showcases the Indian Army climbing team’s unwavering dedication and superb skills.With Mount Kun successfully scaled, attention is now turned to the upcoming trip to Mount Nun, which soars to a dizzying height of 7,135 metres.The speaker continued, “The same team will now move towards Mount Nun, carrying with them the hopes and aspirations of the country.” The Indian Army proclaimed the victorious conclusion of “Operation Vijay” on July 26, 1999. This came after a struggle that lasted nearly three months in the freezing heights of Kargil, including extremely high ground like Tololing and Tiger Hill.
