Mendhar/Jammu, Aug 16 : Prior to the yearly Budha Amarnath yatra in Poonch district, security personnel launched a search operation in over a dozen villages close to the LoC on Wednesday, according to officials.. The Gursai region of the Mendhar sub-division, which is located along the yatra route, was searched for the second time in the last week, according to the officials.
In Poonch, security has been stepped up in preparation for the 10-day yatra, which is set to start on August 18. The traditional ‘Bhoomi Pujan’ will take place on August 17 and the first group of pilgrims will depart for the yatra the next day.One of the oldest shrines in the Jammu region is the Buddha Amarnath Temple, which is devoted to Lord Shiva. It is located in the village of Rajpura in the Mandi tehsil of Poonch, and it receives a large influx of pilgrims during the yatra that ends with the arrival of the “Charri Mubarak” (holy mace) from Dashnami Akhara Poonch.
The River Pulsata, which flows alongside the temple and is revered, is where visitors bathe before visiting the building.Over a dozen villages in Gursai were sealed off by police, the Army, and the CRPF early this morning for a thorough search operation, according to the officials, who added that more information is needed.
