JK Govt Removes JMC Councilor For Abusing Official Position

JAMMU, Sept 26: The Jammu Kashmir Government has made significant decision by removing councillor from the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for abusing her official authority. Jyoti Devi, councillor for the Jammu Municipal Corporation, has been asked to resign after being busted receiving bribe of Rs 1000 by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigators.
“Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 34(I)(b) of The Jammu and Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2000, the government hereby removes Smt. Jyoti Yadav, councillor, ward No. 53, from her office on the grounds of abuse of her official powers, with immediate effect,” according to an order made by the H&UDD. It has taken place twice in the past two years. Awantipora Bashir Ahmad Bhat, the president of the municipal committee, had already been fired for abusing his position.
