BSF fires warning shots along IB in Jammu

JAMMU : According to government reports, on Saturday, BSF forces opened fire with a few warning shots when a group of individuals escorted by Pakistan Rangers approached the international border near this location. Requests for a formal statement regarding the event in the Arnia area of R S Pura sector were made repeatedly, but the Border Security Force (BSF) did not return calls or messages. The sources state that at noon, a BSF jawan fired two warning shots when a group of more than twenty persons entered Indian land with a herd of bovine animals and three Pakistan Rangers men with them.The reports added that the people went back to the Pakistani side and that there was no reprisal from the other side. On October 17, unprovoked shooting by Pakistani troops on an Indian position in Arnia resulted in the injuries of two BSF men. CS inspects execution of SSCL works along Dal & Jhelum

SRINAGAR: Today, Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta toured the whole city of Srinagar to examine the various projects being undertaken by Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) at Zero Bridge, Foreshore Road, Nishat, Shalimar, and Nishat. Divisional Commissioner Vijay Kumar Bidhuri of Kashmir, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Aijaz Asad of Srinagar, VC LCMA, officers from SSCL, R&B and other departments joined him. Chief Secretary instructed responsible parties to finish the outstanding work, including the seating arrangements, by October 31st in order to prepare the recreational Multi Utility Zone for public use, while on site inspecting Sunset Point (Dal Lake).Dr. Mehta also went to Nishat, where he examined the parking lot's tiling job in addition to painting the walkway that borders Dal Lake. He gave the SSCL officers instructions to finish the project by October 31 because continuous development was taking up the majority of the current working season. During his visit to Shalimar, he gave the order to have the electric poles in the centre of the major road removed and to make the road's median more attractive. At that time, the local traders asked the Chief Secretary to order the concerned parties to finish the garden's renovations in order to draw more guests. For the convenience of guests and tourists, Dr. Mehta instructed SMC to install the mobile restrooms close to Shalimar Garden and other public areas and tourist attractions. He gave them the order to do all of the work by November of this year. During his visit to Zero Bridge, the Chief Secretary gave the interested parties instructions to remove visual pollution on the Jhelum bund by putting the electricity lines underground through the ducts underneath. Soldier Injured In Sniper Fire From Pak Side Along LoC

SRINAGAR, Oct 21: In the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, sniper fire from the Pakistani side wounded a soldier, according to officials on Saturday. The event happened late on Friday night in the Keran sector. On Friday night, the Pakistani Army opened fire with a sniper round at an Indian army station in the Keran area. In this incident, Soldier Saurav Kumar sustained injuries. For expert care, he was evacuated to the army's 92-base hospital in Srinagar. Vinod Kumar appointed SSP Jammu; Joginder Singh SSP Udhampur

JAMMU: On Saturday, Vinod Kumar, a senior Indian Police Service (IPS) official, was named the new Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Jammu. Chandan Kohli, who was previously appointed as deputy secretary in the cabinet secretariat, was replaced by Kumar. According to a J&K Home Department order, IPS Joginder Singh, director of the special security force (J&K), was transferred and posted as SSP Udhampur, while Kumar, who was currently assigned as SSP Udhampur, was transferred and placed as SSP Jammu. In lieu of Singh, IPS Swarn Singh Kotwal, commandant of SDRF 1-battalion Srinagar, was transferred and assigned to the position of director of the J&K special security force.According to the order, Kohli was appointed as deputy secretary in the senior executive cadre of the cabinet secretariat on a deputation basis for a term of four years, with the permission of competent authority. Fight against terrorism reaching its logical conclusion in J&K: DGP Dilbag

SRINAGAR: Director General of Police (DGP) for Jammu and Kashmir, Dilbag Singh, stated on Saturday that while efforts are ongoing to establish peace as a permanent feature of the UT, police have brought the war against terrorism nearly to its logical end. Speaking during the police commemoration day at Zewan in Srinagar, DGP Dilbag Singh stated that the threat of terrorism has affected J&K for more than thirty years. "The battle to eradicate terrorists from J&K territory is coming to a natural end. The current state of peace in J&K is being worked to remain permanent, according to the DGP.He noted that despite ongoing attempts to sabotage peace, police are making a lot of effort to thwart any such attempts. According to him, eight police officers were killed in anti-militancy operations this year. "Some officers from the army and other forces also lost their lives," he added. According to the DGP, Kashmir's condition has drastically changed in the last several years. "J&K is on the path of peace and development," he stated. 1606 police officers have died while performing their duties, according to the J&K police chief, who paid heartfelt homage to the fallen heroes. "We honour our martyrs with beautiful honours as we stand with them today.He continued, saying that the families of police martyrs are supported by the entire police force. SRINAGAR: According to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, his administration has been able to give the public access to more electricity than in prior years. The LG stated that there has been a significant increase in transmission and distribution capacity over the past three years while speaking to a press conference about the state of the power system in Jammu and Kashmir at Raj Bhavan. "We have been able to provide more electricity to the people compared to before, but it is also a reality that our losses have increased," he stated. According to Sinha, the administration is making every effort to satisfy the peak demand for power throughout the winter. According to him, his administration seeks minimum curtailment in places where 100% metering has been accomplished.According to the LG, the administration is attempting to implement widespread metering in the UT. "In the first phase, smart metres are being installed in Srinagar and Jammu," he stated. According to him, J&K purchases power for about Rs. 10 per unit, but provides it to clients who fall below the poverty line for Rs. 1.25 per unit. "There is already a huge subsidy, but you all know how much money comes from the billing," he stated. According to Sinha, the Union Cabinet made a crucial decision this week when it approved the interstate transmission system for the 13 GW renewable energy project in Ladakh, which is part of the green energy corridor phase two project. According to him, Jammu and Kashmir would gain a great deal from the Ladakh energy project since it would lessen reliance on hydroelectricity, which decreases in the winter. "The transmission line for evacuating power will run through Himachal Pradesh and Punjab to Kaithal in Haryana, integrating with the National Grid and interconnection to Ladakh's existing grid and the 220kV Alusteng Grid in Ganderbal district of Kashmir through Leh-Alusteng-Srinagar line, to provide power to J&K," he stated. "It is certain that the power transfer from Ladakh will positively impact the entire Kashmir valley, improving power availability round the year, especially during power deficit winter months," he stated. According to him, the power situation in the Jammu region would also improve because there will be a proportionate decrease in the amount of power sent to Kashmir from the 400kV Kishanpur and Jatwal central sector grids located in Jammu. "This reduction will free up tied capacity at these grids, thereby improving availability in Jammu throughout the year," he stated. "The power supply from the said BESS-supported renewable energy generator, located near Kashmir, will mitigate the low voltage conditions experienced during winters in the valley due to the decrease in hydro generation," he stated. The project is expected to cost Rs 20,773.70 crore in total and be operational by the 2029–2030 fiscal year. The Central government would provide Rs 8309.48 crore, or 40% of the project's total cost, in financial aid. JAMMU: The State Investigation Agency (SIA) has detained a major suspect in a case involving the cross-border smuggling of weapons, explosives, and drugs into Poonch from the Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. He is recognised as Mohammad Iqbal son of Slam Din, a resident of the Poonch district village of Karmara. Since the arrest of three of his associates, who were found with an enormous cache of weapons, explosives, and drugs close to the border fence in the Karmara district of Poonch on the intervening night of May 30 and 31, he has been evading capture, according to officials.The SIA team discovered after conducting investigations that one Muhammad Iqbal had left the location. SRINAGAR: Authorities in the Pulwama district of south Kashmir stated today that they had attached the immovable property of a terrorist who was escaping from Noorpora hamlet in Awantipora on Friday as part of their ongoing campaign against terror groups. According to a police spokesman, Police Awantipora has attached the property of terror handler Feroz Ganie, son of Naber Ganie, which is spread over one kanal and fifteen marlas of orchard land, under Section 83 CrPC on the directions of the Additional Sessions Pulwama (NIA Court). Dr. Karan Singh : Political link between public and administration missing in J&K

JAMMU: Veteran Congress leader Karan Singh claimed on Friday that elections are the only way to restore the vital connection that Jammu and Kashmir's people have with their government. In order to resolve public issues, he also identified Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) as the essential intermediary between the people and the administration. Singh argued in favour of holding the assembly elections, stating that until a government is established by popular vote, the issue in Jammu and Kashmir cannot be regarded as resolved. The head of Congress emphasised that a strong opposition is necessary for a functioning democracy. "A democracy requires a robust opposition as well as a strong administration. It is not optimal to have one dominant force.After decades of Congress domination, the BJP is now in the driver's seat. It must be in balance," he declared. He stated that the opposition coalition INDIA was established with the intention of running a cohesive campaign in elections. "It will benefit the nation if they can accomplish that and grow stronger. There is no need to forecast whether they will win or not. Democracy benefits from a robust opposition, he continued. Regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict, Singh assessed the circumstances as perilous. "While we thought wars were a thing of the past, Ukraine-Russia war and the Hamas-Israel conflict are a grim reality in our lifetime" , he stated. He argued that the best way to end the conflict is through a two-state solution and emphasised that the US must actively seek and carry out this strategy.
