NC not against Women Reservation Bill: Omar

SRINAGAR : National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah stated on Tuesday that the party is not opposed to the Women Reservation Bill and has no issues if it is put into effect. When did we oppose women's reservations? It was put into practise by us personally in panchayats and other places. We support women's rights because they make up 50% of our population and should have the opportunity to serve as elected officials. Abdullah told reporters in Budgam, "We don't oppose to this. Abdullah responded that the party does not lack qualified female leaders when asked if it will affect the party's prospects in J&K. "What effect will it have? Do you believe there won't be any women running for the designated seats at the polls? There are plenty of female candidates throughout the NC. We have a women's wing, and they are fighting tooth and nail. "No bill will have any effect on us." Only because our leaders here are afraid of the polls do we suffer. Security Forces Comb Through Anantnag Forest | Day 7 Of J&K Operation

Srinagar, Sept 19: Tuesday marked the seventh day of one of Jammu and Kashmir's longest anti-militancy operations, which has seen three officers and a soldier die, as security forces combed through the deep woodlands of Gadole in the Kashmir Valley's Anantnag district. On Monday, two bodies were discovered in the nearby forest. One of them was Pradeep, the soldier who was murdered by terrorists last Wednesday. Officials stated that the identity of the other has not yet been determined. For the past four days, police officials have remained silent about the operation. They think there are two or three terrorists imprisoned in the forest.The operation got off on Wednesday when terrorists murdered Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police Humayun Bhat, Major Ashish Dhonchak and Colonel Manpreet Singh, commanding officer of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles. On the first day of the encounter, Pradeep vanished, and it was assumed that he had been slain. Prior to the operation, officials had claimed that drone footage had revealed a burned body close to one of the terrorist hideouts that had been destroyed. DC forewarns strict action against unfair practices in ration supply

JAMMU: Deputy Commissioner Sachin Kumar Vaishya met with representatives from the department of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) today to examine the state of ration supply and distribution in the district. During the meeting, Assistant Directors, TSOs, and Inspectors were present. The DC stressed important aspects of the ration supply chain during the meeting, such as the demand for prompt distribution, the exclusive use of electronic weighing devices, biometric verification, issuing purchase receipts, getting rid of manual paperwork, and vigorously implementing the One Nation One Ration Card initiative. The DC stressed the importance of the ration distribution process for the general population while examining each phase in detail. The DC went over each beneficiary category's status, including AAY, PHH, and NPHH. Regarding accusations of unfair practises such theft, adulteration, and underweighing, the DC expressed grave concern. Kashmiri journalist Majid Hyderi booked under stringent PSA

SRINAGAR:Majid Hyderi, a journalist and political analyst, has been booked under the strict Public Safety Act (PSA), according to officials. Majid Hyderi was detained last week by the Jammu and Kashmir Police on suspicion of criminal conspiracy and extortion. According to them, Hyderi has been arrested under the PSA and is being held at the Kot Balwal jail in the UT's Jammu region. Hyderi, a local of the Peerbagh neighbourhood of the city, was detained late on Thursday night after police reported him in accordance with a court's directive. "FIR number 88/2023 under sections 120B, 177, 386 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at the Sadder police station on the basis of an order issued by the JMIC court in Srinagar," police said on X.Police stated that he was detained on suspicion of criminal conspiracy, intimidation, extortion, providing false information, defamation, and other offences. The journalist and political pundit who frequently appeared on television news channels was granted bail on Saturday but was then detained again the next day for a different offence. Omar Abdullah, a former chief minister of J&K and vice president of the National Conference, referred to Hyderi's PSA arrest as extremely upsetting. The reports of #MajidHyderi's PSA imprisonment are quite upsetting. If true, this is again another example of how the current J&K administration is intolerant of any criticism. In a post on X, Abdullah said, "I don't think there is very much he and I would ever agree on because we are ideologically poles apart, but this reported detention and shift to a jail in Jammu is cruel & unnecessary." Cyber Crime Investigation Centre SP to join NIA on deputation basis

JAMMU: In order to join the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on a deputation basis for a period of five years, Sandeep Choudhary, SP, of the Jammu and Kashmir Police's Cyber Crime Investigation Centre for Excellence (CICE), was relieved of his duties on Monday, according to an official order. Anuj Kumar, Superintendent of Police (SP), Special Crime Wing, Jammu, was assigned the additional responsibility of SP, CICE until further orders, according to an order from Raj Kumar Goyal, Financial Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary, J&K home department. According to the order, Choudhary, an IPS officer from the 2012 batch of the AGMUT cadre, was relieved of his duties in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir so that he could accept the new assignment with the federal organisation as a result of the competent authority's approval of his entry as SP in the NIA on a deputation basis. According to the order, the officer's deputation would last for five years from the day they took over their position or until further instructions, whichever came first. Four arrested including Sarpanch in murder of youth

JAMMU, Sept 18: Police said on Monday that four people, including a sarpanch, had been detained in connection with the murder of a young man here last week. On September 14, a gun and other sharp-edged weapons were used by unidentified intruders to assassinate Sunny Saansiya inside his home in the Bishnah neighbourhood. An officer reported that police had found a motorbike used in the crime in a canal along with two sharp edged knives, a revolver and other items. The suspects have been named as Sarpanch Yuvraj Singh, Dushant Kumar, and Nasir Khan, along with Sukhdev Singh alias "Makhan," according to the police. As the investigation into the case moves further, more arrests are probably to come.Police said that Saansiya was a well-known drug dealer who had twice been jailed under the Public Safety Act (PSA). He was named as a defendant in more than a dozen NDPS Act cases that were brought by various police stations.
