CRPF DG reviews operational readiness in Kashmir

SRINAGAR: Dr. Sujoy Lal Thaosen, Director General (DG) of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), visited south Kashmir on Thursday to assess the force's operational readiness. He comes just a few weeks after the Kokernag engagement, which resulted in the death of a senior LeT leader. The incident also claimed the lives of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Muhammad Humayun Muzamil Bhat, two Army personnel, Colonel Manpreet Singh and Major Ashish Dhonchak. Meanwhile, on Thursday, the DG CRPF paid a visit to 180 BN in the Tral neighbourhood of Pulwama district and RTC Srinagar in Lethpora. The CRPF's top ranking officers and the DG assessed the unit's operational readiness together while also interacting with the staff to raise spirits. Along with IG CRPF Kashmir Operations Sector Gyanendra Kumar Verma and IG CRPF Srinagar Sector Ajay Yadav, DG CRPF was accompanied by Additional Director General (ADG) of Jammu and Kashmir Zone Nalin Prabhat. The official stated that "the DG visited RTC after his arrival in Kashmir to inspect the facilities and interact with the trainees." He added that the DG also provided words of motivation and inspiration, reiterating the CRPF's dedication to operational readiness and quality in training.Later, Dr. Thaosen paid a heartfelt homage to the valiant warriors who had given the ultimate sacrifices while performing their duty by visiting 180 BN of the CRPF and inaugurating Shaheed Mukesh Lal Meena Barrack. He praised the CRPF officers and Jawans for their unwavering loyalty and steadfast dedication to the security of the country, the official added. Additionally, the DG CRPF joined the members of the CRPF for a friendly supper at Badakhana in 180 BN. JAMMU, Sept 28: The Jammu Smart City won the Urban Environment category of the India Smart Cities Awards Contest (ISAC) 2022 for its successful e-mobility project, which includes the operation of eAutos and eRickshaws. Droupadi Murmu, the President of India, attended the award ceremony at Indore, Madhya Pradesh, as the principal guest. The Smart Cities Mission of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs serves as the umbrella organisation for the India Smart Cities Award Contest. It honours and recognises the 100 Smart Cities' cities, initiatives, and creative concepts that advance sustainable development.According to the official, Shivamogga (Karnataka) took first prize in the Urban Environment Project category, with Indore taking second, and the Jammu Smart City taking third. Out of the 75 plans submitted by 48 cities, the Jammu Smart City was chosen as the winner of the India Smart Cities Awards Contest category. According to sources, Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister for Housing and Urban Development, presented the award to Rahul Yadav, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jammu Smart City Limited (JSCL)."The award comes as a testament to the Jammu Smart City Limited's unwavering commitment to driving innovation in urban mobility and contributing to a greener, more sustainable urban landscape nationwide," the official said, describing the honour as a "landmark achievement". DM Samba acts tough against encroachments

SAMBA: A comprehensive anti-encroachment operation successfully carried out by the District Administration resulted in the reclaiming of illegally occupied land at Industrial Estate Karandi Phase-III today. This initiative led to the removal of unlawful constructions from the estate as well as the recovery of important industrial land. He claimed that successful operations were carried out and will keep doing so to eradicate the militancy's remains. According to Singh, there are now fewer active terrorists present, and attempts are being made to get rid of the rest. The DGP claimed that thanks to the ongoing efforts of the Jammu Kashmir Police and the "sacrifices of our fallen heroes," people in the Union Territory are living normal lives, sending their children to school, and conducting other business activities fearlessly. AMRITSAR: Following a three-day "rail roko" campaign, members of several farmer bodies squatted on train tracks on Thursday, preventing multiple trains from moving across Punjab. They were demonstrating to press their varied requests, which included debt forgiveness, a financial package for losses brought on by recent flooding, and legal guarantees to minimum support prices (MSP). Numerous trains were either cancelled or short-terminated, according to railway officials, as a result of the farmers' unrest. After the operation of the trains was hampered by the farmers' uproar, it was the passengers on the trains who suffered the most.Protesters claim that the Centre will remain the target of their agitation until September 30. New Delhi, Sep 28: According to Union minister Nitin Gadkari, the government is developing a plan to guarantee that there are no potholes on national highways by the end of the year and that built-operate-transfer (BOT) roads are favoured since they are better maintained. Gadkari said the government is conducting a safety evaluation of the nation's highways, noting that rainfall can damage highways and result in potholes.According to him, a programme is being developed to guarantee that there are no potholes on the nation's highways, and young engineers will be employed to help the effort succeed. Anurag Jain, the secretary for road transport and highways, stated that the ministry has completed the mapping of the 1,46,000 km of national highways and is finalising performance-based maintenance and short-term maintenance contracts to fill potholes by December of this year. Chandigarh, Sept 28: On Thursday morning, Punjab Police detained Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira in connection with a 2015 narcotics case, according to official sources. Around six in the morning, Khaira's Chandigarh home was raided by a Punjab Police squad under the direction of Superintendent of Police Manjeet Singh. The MLA's son broadcast live on Facebook that a Punjab Police team had arrived at their home to arrest Khaira. Khaira could be seen disputing with the police officers and demanding to see the arrest warrant in the footage.Additionally, the Bholath politician was observed enquiring about the identities of the police personnel who took part in the raid. The police officer informed him that he was being detained in connection with a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act case. Khaira inquired as to where they were taking him, and a policeman said that they were taking him to Jalalabad in Fazilka. Official sources state that Khaira was detained as a result of an inquiry into the 2015 case conducted by a special investigation team headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police Swapan Sharma.The Congress MLA, who has criticised the AAP government on a number of occasions, attacked the Bhagwant Mann administration, claiming that "jungle raj" was in effect in the state and that he was being detained in a "false" case. The AAP government was criticised by the Punjab Congress for engaging in political vengeance. The Enforcement Directorate detained him in 2021 on suspicion of money laundering related to the cocaine case from the previous year. In 2022, bail was granted for him. The summoning order against Khaira in the 2015 narcotics case was revoked by the top court in February 2023. Srinagar police chief Rakesh Balwal sent back to Manipur cadre

SRINAGAR: Rakesh Balwal, an IPS officer , has been ordered by the Indian government to return early to his Manipur cadre. Balwal, IPS (MA- 2012), has been transferred from the AGMUT to the Manipur cadre in accordance with an instruction from the Deputy Secretary to the Government of India. The Ministry of Home Affairs' suggestion led to the passing of the order. Almost a month after the MHA's proposal, the Cabinet's Appointments committee has approved the request. Rakesh Balwal will now be assigned to Manipur from his current position as SSP in Srinagar.
