J&K Police attach property of notorious drug peddler worth lacs in Kulgam

KULGAM: In the Kulgam area of South Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday annexed the property valued at lacs belonging to a well-known drug dealer. Under section 68-F (2) of the NDPS Act 1985, District Police Kulgam continued its harsh action against drug peddling and its propagators by attaching property (under construction house) on 10 Marla of land bearing survey no 622 belonging to a notorious drug peddler, Barkatullah Mir son of Mohd Abdullah Mir, resident of Buchroo, Kulgam. The property was discovered to have been unlawfully acquired during the Kulgam police's investigation and inquiry.The owner initially obtained the property through the illegal trafficking of psychotropic and narcotic drugs. The aforementioned drug dealer is pertinently connected to Case FIR numbers 69/2021 of Kulgam Police Station and 03/2018 of Yaripora Police Station. This move reaffirms the police's commitment to fighting the drug problem. The people in the neighbourhood have applauded the police for taking the initiative to attach real estate that the drug dealer had raised or exploited for illegal drug trafficking. 8 Students & 3 Teachers Injured As School Bus Turns Turtle

JAMMU, Jan 16: In the Samba area of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, a school bus carrying eight pupils and three teachers suffered injuries when it rolled over. Along the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway, a private school's bus carrying pupils and staff had an accident and turned into a turtle. Locals and law enforcement moved quickly to transport the injured to the district hospital. To check on the injured patients, SSP Samba Benam Tosh and Deputy Commissioner Samba Abhishek Sharma paid a visit to the hospital.The Deputy Commissioner declared, "The students and teachers have sustained minor injuries and are all safe." He noted that the accident's cause is being determined in order to take the appropriate next steps. Contempt Matter: SC Asks Lawyer To File Proper Apology To Judges For Scandalous Allegations

New Delhi, Jan 16: The Supreme Court ordered a lawyer on Tuesday to give a proper, unconditional apology to the judges he had targeted, stating that it was not satisfied with the nature of the apology. The lawyer had been found guilty of criminal contempt and sentenced to six months in jail for making "scandalous, unwarranted, and baseless imputations" against several judges of the Delhi High Court and district courts in the nation's capital. On January 9, the Delhi High Court found the lawyer guilty of contempt of court and sentenced him to six months in prison in addition to a Rs 2,000 fine. Additionally, it had mandated that he be placed under arrest and turned over to the Tihar jail administrator.Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud's bench gave the attorney one more chance to submit a formal apology. This isn't a sincere regret. This apology is fabricated. How can he claim that was genuine and unintentional? After reviewing the lawyer's apology, the bench—which also included Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra—stated that he needed to submit a formal apology. The attorney for the client entered an unconditional affidavit into the record as the hearing got underway, stating that his client had also made a spoken apology and had already been incarcerated for a week. The Supreme Court set a hearing date for January 19 and gave him one more chance to submit an apology.The high court stated in its decision that such acts needed to be checked with a "firm hand" because the attorney who made the libellous accusations was an officer of the court. In July 2022, he entered a plea before a high court bench consisting of only one judge, in which he accused multiple judges of behaving biasedly, irrationally, or arbitrarily. In his plea, he had listed the judges as well. Snowfall Must For Power Projects To Run, Tourism Sector To Thrive: LG Sinha

SRINAGAR, Jan 16: Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, expressed his wish for snowfall in the region on Tuesday, saying that the region needs snow in order to run power projects and have a thriving tourism industry. Speaking at a function in the Baramulla district of north Kashmir, the LG stated that the region is now experiencing a dry winter. "I ask God to provide snow because power projects depend on it to function; without it, they would fail. Snowfall is also necessary to maintain the health of the tourism industry, he stated.According to the LG, 13 lakh people came to Gulmarg last year, with the snow serving as a key draw. "In the Baramulla district, six new destinations have been added to the list, but tourists would prefer to stay away in the absence of snow," he stated. LG stated that with the completion of OBC reservations, elections for Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) will take place shortly. Elections for Panchayats and ULBs will be held after the process is completed, he stated. "Work is going on towards that direction."On January 26, Republic Day, the LG asked the people of Baramulla to participate in the Jhanda Ooncha Rahay Hamara programme in big numbers. SRINAGAR: The lack of snow has severely impacted Kashmir's tourism sector, causing a flood of intended travellers to postpone and cancel their plans, which has affected hotels and tour companies. Local companies that depend heavily on winter travel were caught off guard by the sudden development. Kashmir's once-thriving tourism industry has suffered a great deal as a result of social media posts expressing disbelief and sharing pictures of desolate surroundings. Kashmir's well-known tourist attractions, including Pahalgam, Sonamarg, and Gulmarg, a ski resort that has long drawn tourists from all over the world, have been negatively impacted by this year's lack of snow.Tourism stakeholders estimate that there has been a loss of over 50% in leisure tourism enthusiasts and an 80 percent decline in adventure tourism enthusiasts. BARAMULLA: Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 15 Corps, which is headquartered in Srinagar, stated on Tuesday that although things were "good" in Kashmir, more work needed to be done before things could forward. He was speaking with members of the media outside of the Baramulla event when the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of J&K officially opened General Bipin Rawat Stadium. MENDHAR/JAMMU, Jan 16: Tuesday was the third day that the forest fire in the Balakote and Mendhar districts of Jammu and Kashmir had burned nonstop, resulting in the detonation of many landmines near the Line of Control, according to officials. SRINAGAR: Sanjeev Malhotra, the Chief Engineer of Jal Jeevan Mission J&K, expressed serious concern on Tuesday on the current dry weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that "if dry spell continues the situation could be alarming". He advised everyone to use water wisely and to make sure that it is stored under the appropriate conditions. Malhotra stated that although there isn't much to worry about at the moment, the scenario could change at any time due to Jammu and Kashmir's persistently dry weather. As of right now, there's no reason to be concerned about surface water resources.Surface water resources have a significant amount of water available, despite the fact that the supply has been interrupted by technical problems," he stated. J&K Govt asks it’s employees to attend Republic Day function as ‘Official Duty’

JAMMU: As part of their official responsibilities in the Union Territory, the government of Jammu & Kashmir has requested that its staff members attend events on January 26. The Hon. Lieutenant Governor will preside over and take the salute during the Republic Day, 2024 major event, which is being hosted at Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu. It is required of all government and public sector enterprise employees stationed in Jammu to attend the event as part of their official duties. All department heads and chief executive officers of public sector enterprises are required to guarantee their own attendance at the event, as well as that of the staff members under their supervision.
