JAMMU, June 21: In a remarkable feat of endurance and mountaineering skill, three mountaineers from Jammu Division-Aakash Sanmotra, Mallikarjun Singh Slathia and Pranav Bandral-successfully scaled Mount Yunam (6,111 metres) in the Lahaul region of Himachal Pradesh on June 19.

The expedition stands out because the trio completed it in alpine style, undertaking the climb entirely on their own without the assistance of professional guides, porters or support teams. The climbers independently planned the expedition, managed logistics, carried their equipment, established camps and navigated the challenging high-altitude route.

Despite difficult weather conditions, rugged terrain and extreme altitude, the team reached the summit and unfurled the Indian National Flag atop the peak. The mountaineers said the expedition was aimed at promoting adventure sports, physical fitness and self-reliance among youth.

Their achievement has brought pride to Jammu Division and serves as an inspiration for aspiring mountaineers and adventure enthusiasts across Jammu and Kashmir.
