JAMMU: In view of the upcoming summer holiday rush and the annual Amarnath Yatra, a comprehensive security and checking drive was conducted at Jammu Railway Station on Wednesday to strengthen passenger safety and ensure smooth travel arrangements.
The joint operation involved personnel from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and the Commercial Department’s ticket-checking staff. The initiative was aimed at assessing and enhancing security measures at the station, which serves as a major transit point for lakhs of pilgrims and tourists visiting Jammu and Kashmir during the pilgrimage season.
During the operation, RPF and GRP teams carried out intensive searches of arriving and departing trains, platforms, waiting halls, foot-over bridges, and parking areas. Special attention was paid to suspicious luggage and unattended items to prevent any security lapses.
Simultaneously, ticket-checking staff conducted inspections against unauthorized travel and took action against passengers found travelling without valid tickets or proper reservations. Passengers were also advised to carry valid travel documents and identity proofs at all times.
As part of the awareness campaign, travelers were informed about emergency helpline numbers and urged to immediately report any suspicious person or object to railway security personnel.
Speaking on the occasion, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Uchit Singhal, said passenger footfall at Jammu Railway Station increases significantly during the summer vacation period and the Amarnath Yatra.
“Passenger convenience, safety and security remain our highest priorities. This joint drive involving the GRP, RPF and ticket-checking staff is part of our efforts to ensure that every tourist and pilgrim enjoys a safe and hassle-free journey. We appeal to passengers to travel only with valid tickets and make proper use of the facilities available at the station,” he said.
Railway authorities stated that all necessary arrangements related to security, cleanliness and passenger convenience have been put in place and will continue throughout the Amarnath Yatra period to facilitate the smooth movement of pilgrims and other travelers.
