POONCH: Security forces on Sunday launched a multi-area search operation in Poonch district to track down suspected terrorists believed to be operating in the region, officials said.
The operation was launched in various parts of Poonch following an infiltration bid that was foiled in the Mankote area of Mendhar tehsil on May 12, during which one intruder was killed.
Officials said security personnel, including teams from the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, initiated a large-scale combing operation covering more than five areas of the district to trace suspected militants.
Following the killing of the infiltrator in the Krishna Ghati sector along the Line of Control, security arrangements across the district have been tightened, with additional checkpoints established and vehicles being subjected to thorough checking.
Officials said there were unconfirmed reports regarding the possible presence of a high-profile foreign terrorist operating in the area. However, no official confirmation was available till the filing of this report.
