Srinagar, Jun 25: Overnight light rain at a few places brought a slight respite from the scorching heat in Kashmir on Sunday as the temp came down a bit.From June 25 to June 28, the Meteorological Department forecast usually cloudy conditions with sporadic light to moderate thundershowers at numerous locations, especially during the late afternoon or evening and early morning hours.
It warned that heavy rain and severe showers could occur in a few spots across the Jammu Division for a short time.During the aforementioned period, there is a chance of moderate to severe thunder or lightning with high surface winds in a few locations, while the MeT office predicted that a few locations may have light rain or thundershowers on June 29 and 30.
Additionally, it has warned that the melting of glaciers, snow, and rain between June 25 and June 28 would result in a considerable rise in water flows into rivers, local nallahs, and flood channels, which might lead to flash floods, mudslides, and landslides in some areas.It warned of the possibility of severe downpours on June 25 and 26 in a couple of Jammu Division’s intermediate and higher levels.The national highway connecting Srinagar to Jammu, Srinagar to Leh, and other important hilly highways may temporarily be disrupted by the irregular weather.
The Met agency added that until June 28, all tourists and travellers should be alert and informed.
The previous night’s low temperature in Srinagar was 22.4 degrees Celsius, hence this low was 2.5 degrees Celsius more than usual for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. Up to 8:30 a.m. today, Srinagar also received 1.2 millimetres of rain throughout the previous 24 hours.The temperature in Qazigund, the entrance to Kashmir, was 2.1 degrees Celsius above average with a low of 17.8 degrees Celsius compared to 20.0 degrees Celsius the day before.
Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in south Kashmir, had a temperature of 13.1, which was 2.4 degrees higher than average for the valley of shepherds.In the picnic area of south Kashmir, Kokernag, the low temperature was 18.1 degrees Celsius, compared to 20.0 degrees Celsius, and was 2.8 degrees Celsius above average. In the frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara, the low temperature was 19.2 degrees Celsius, compared to 19.6 degrees Celsius the night before, and was 3.8 degrees Celsius above average.
According to the MeT office, Gulmarg’s low temperature was 4.6 degrees Celsius, down from 14.4 degrees the previous night and 6.8 degrees below average for the well-known ski resort in the Baramulla region of north Kashmir.
