RAJOURI, May 5: Traffic Police, Rural Jammu, in its continued drive against overloading and violation of fitness norms, today lodged another FIR at Rajouri against driver of a bus plying on the district roads.
Giving detail an official said that today, SO Traffic, Rajouri during routine checking near Government Degree College, Rajouri intercepted a bus bearing registration No. JK02DJ-8844 which was on its way from Karhad to Rajouri. During checking, the vehicle driven by one Tahir Hussain, son of Zakir Hussain, resident of Karhad in Rajouri, was found overloaded with 13 excess passengers (46 as against approved 33), thereby, posing a serious threat to the safety of passengers and increasing the likelihood of accidents.
Further verification revealed that the vehicle has a dubious history of having been challaned 36 times in last 3 years out of which 25 challans remain pending till date. Moreover, the bus was also plying without Fitness Certificate which has since expired.
Notably, the vehicle was also challaned on April 29, 2026 for operating with an expired Fitness Certificate, however, the driver/owner continued to ply the vehicle thereby endangering human lives. Accordingly, FIR No. 225/2026 U/S 281/125 BNS 56/192/184/194 MV Act has been registered against the driver at Police Station Rajouri. This is third such FIR lodged for similar offences in past one week, the other two registered each at PS Surankote and Billawar.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Rural Jammu Farooq Qaiser stated that the matter will be taken up with the concerned authorities for cancellation of the Registration Certificate of the vehicle as well as the Driving License of the driver involved.
