 SRINAGAR, Nov 19: Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the PDP, stated on Sunday that cricket should not be viewed as a war but rather as a sport. JAMMU: Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Anand Jain visited Headquarters Delta Force, Dharmund Batote on Saturday as part of his ongoing tour to various districts to assess the security and law and order situation. He spoke with the Corps Commander, GOC, and other Army officers about the security situation in the area and the measures being taken to secure the highway. In addition to asking about the condition of the injured bus passengers admitted to GMC Doda, the IGP met with members of the civil society while en route to Doda. He also stopped by the accident site in Assar to assess the situation. He also chaired an officers' meeting at District Police Lines Doda to review the security and crime situation in the district.Dr. Sunil Gupta, IGP, visited Delta Force Headquarters in Dharmund in the morning with DIG DKR by his side. There, he talked about the area's security situation and highway security measures. The IGP was briefed by the GOC on the operations of the counterterrorism grid in the areas of Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban. Later, while travelling to Doda, he went to the Assar accident scene and performed a thorough assessment in an effort to stop similar accidents in the future. There, SP Doda Abdul Qayoom received him. At Doda, IGP received a ceremonial guard of honour. SSP Doda and all GOs/SHOs were present at an officers' meeting he chaired to discuss crime, law and order, and security in the district.During his speech, the IGP instructed the officers to assist the impacted families of accident cases in any way they could. He gave the officers orders to step up their efforts to combat drug dealers and eradicate the threat from society, stating that it is concerning that young people are becoming involved in this criminal activity. He emphasised the need for law enforcement to take all appropriate steps to curb drug abuse in society and demanded harsh punishments for drug traffickers. He gave all of the supervisory officers instructions to raise the standard of their investigations in order to increase the conviction rate. In order to thwart the evil intentions of terrorists and their sponsors, he emphasised the need for increased coordination between the police and other local security agencies. During the meeting, SSP Doda Abdul Qayoom gave the IGP Jammu a powerpoint presentation on the district profile and the operations of the District Police. IGP spoke with representatives of civil society in the interim. He tried to get the people to cooperate. JAMMU: The Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party (DSSP) chairman and former minister for Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhary Lal Singh, was placed under judicial custody on Saturday by a Special designated Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court. The Enforcement Directorate detained Singh on November 7 in relation to a suspected money laundering case. Chaudhary Lal Singh was placed under two weeks of judicial custody by Special Judge CBI Bala Joyti, who oversaw the proceedings. Through video conference, the 64-year-old former minister and head of the DSSP made an appearance before the court. The Assistant Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Jammu facilitated the appearance.Ashwani Khajuria, the special public prosecutor for the ED, made the case for the judicial remand during the hearing and requested a 14-day extension. The court took note of the arguments made and stated that Chaudhary Lal Singh was being investigated for a serious offence for which he was not eligible for bail. The Investigating Officer (IO) reported to the court that the accused was not cooperating and that no statements had been recorded. Thus, from November 18 to December 1, the court awarded judicial custody for a period of 14 days. The court also ordered Chaudhary Lal Singh to be kept in the District Jail in Amphalla, Jammu, and to undergo routine medical examinations in accordance with regulations. It also required the accused to appear in court on December 1st, the day after the judicial remand period ended. REASI: Reasi Police, operating under the direction of SSP Amit Gupta, has initiated a special drive to crack down on traffic violators on all high-risk routes in the district. Reasi police conducted a special drive in response to the tragic Doda road accident. They seized 72 vehicles and charged 272 people for various traffic offences, including overloading, driving too fast, not wearing a seat belt, overloading, and triple-riding. 55 drivers also had a medical examination, during which a number of health parameters were examined. DySP Hqrs, Reasi Neeraj Padyar and SHO Reasi Insp Vijay Sharma oversaw the examinations.The benefits of wearing headgear while driving were explained to all of the pillion riders during a briefing. They were also instructed to abide by traffic laws, refrain from reckless driving, and abstain from driving after drinking. The public and passengers valued the police's special drive initiative. District Police Reasi has issued a warning to drivers to refrain from overloading and other infractions, as these put not only their own lives in danger but also the lives of others. The police also urged the public to assist them and offer information if they see any drivers, particularly those operating passenger cars, driving carelessly or recklessly or overloading their vehicles. JAMMU: Authorities declared that they had captured a renowned thief and taken 40 tolas (404 grammes) of stolen gold and money out of his possession. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Dr. Vinod Kumar, addressed the media at Police Station Janipur and stated that four distinct thefts had been reported in the areas that Police Stations Bakshi Nagar and Janipur oversee recently. Under the supervision of SP North, Kulbir Handa, a group of police officers led by SDPO West, Vikram Singh, and supported by SHO Janipur, Inspector Sikandar Singh, arrested a suspect, Shubham, of Gurah Qasim Nagar, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu, currently near the Kali Mata Temple, Shiv Nagar, Jammu, while investigating these cases, he said.The SSP Jammu stated that during interrogation, the suspect admitted to his role in the thefts. Upon his admission, the stolen gold, which weighed about 404 grammes (40 tolas) and included 296 grammes taken from areas under the jurisdiction of Bakshi Nagar and Janipur Police Stations, was found in his possession. According to him, the remaining gold was taken under Section 102 of the CrPC. The SSP Jammu went on to say that the accused, who committed multiple thefts in the areas under the control of Police Stations Janipur, Bakshi Nagar, and Domana, deliberately deposited the stolen gold in three separate financial institutions: the Janipur branch of Canara Bank; the Sarwal branch of Manappuram Finance Limited; and the Janipur branches of Muthoot Finance Limited.In response to a question concerning the steps taken against financial institutions that bought gold from dubious sources, the SSP Jammu said, "We're seeking legal opinion from experts on this subject to chargesheet such institutions." SSP Jammu described the accused's method of operation in detail, stating that they thoroughly surveyed every home, focusing on those that had been unattended for a predetermined amount of time. In contrast to rumours, the police officer stated that the accused did not belong to any gang and operated independently. SSP Jammu promised that the police are dedicated to completing the necessary legal procedures to return the remaining gold to its rightful owners as the investigation moves forward.
