Former minister Chaudhary Lal Singh sent to 14 days judicial custody in alleged money laundering case

JAMMU: The Dogra Swabhiman Sangathan Party (DSSP) chairman and former minister for Jammu and Kashmir, Chaudhary Lal Singh, was placed under judicial custody on Saturday by a Special designated Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court. The Enforcement Directorate detained Singh on November 7 in relation to a suspected money laundering case. Chaudhary Lal Singh was placed under two weeks of judicial custody by Special Judge CBI Bala Joyti, who oversaw the proceedings. Through video conference, the 64-year-old former minister and head of the DSSP made an appearance before the court. The Assistant Director of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Jammu facilitated the appearance.Ashwani Khajuria, the special public prosecutor for the ED, made the case for the judicial remand during the hearing and requested a 14-day extension. The court took note of the arguments made and stated that Chaudhary Lal Singh was being investigated for a serious offence for which he was not eligible for bail. The Investigating Officer (IO) reported to the court that the accused was not cooperating and that no statements had been recorded. Thus, from November 18 to December 1, the court awarded judicial custody for a period of 14 days. The court also ordered Chaudhary Lal Singh to be kept in the District Jail in Amphalla, Jammu, and to undergo routine medical examinations in accordance with regulations. It also required the accused to appear in court on December 1st, the day after the judicial remand period ended. UTTARAKHAND: Early on Saturday morning, fifteen quintals of marigold flowers were used to decorate the Badrinath Temple. Later on Saturday, the doors to one of the most revered shrines in the nation will close for the winter. When they arrived at the Badrinath Dham on Saturday to worship, devotees praised the décor and were observed taking photos of the shrine covered in marigold flowers. The Badrinath Dham Temple Committee released an official statement that read, "The portals of Shri Badrinath Dham will be closed for winter at 3.33 pm today." The Badrinath Dham was beautifully decorated for the Festival of Lights, making it a sight to behold on Diwali night. At the temple, Deepavali was celebrated with much fanfare and pomp. To celebrate Diwali, devotees travelled to Badrinath Dham from all over the nation and the world. From early in the morning until late at night, they stood in queue to receive a "darshan" of the god. REASI: Reasi Police, operating under the direction of SSP Amit Gupta, has initiated a special drive to crack down on traffic violators on all high-risk routes in the district. Reasi police conducted a special drive in response to the tragic Doda road accident. They seized 72 vehicles and charged 272 people for various traffic offences, including overloading, driving too fast, not wearing a seat belt, overloading, and triple-riding. 55 drivers also had a medical examination, during which a number of health parameters were examined. DySP Hqrs, Reasi Neeraj Padyar and SHO Reasi Insp Vijay Sharma oversaw the examinations.The benefits of wearing headgear while driving were explained to all of the pillion riders during a briefing. They were also instructed to abide by traffic laws, refrain from reckless driving, and abstain from driving after drinking. The public and passengers valued the police's special drive initiative. District Police Reasi has issued a warning to drivers to refrain from overloading and other infractions, as these put not only their own lives in danger but also the lives of others. The police also urged the public to assist them and offer information if they see any drivers, particularly those operating passenger cars, driving carelessly or recklessly or overloading their vehicles. JAMMU: Authorities declared that they had captured a renowned thief and taken 40 tolas (404 grammes) of stolen gold and money out of his possession. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Dr. Vinod Kumar, addressed the media at Police Station Janipur and stated that four distinct thefts had been reported in the areas that Police Stations Bakshi Nagar and Janipur oversee recently. Under the supervision of SP North, Kulbir Handa, a group of police officers led by SDPO West, Vikram Singh, and supported by SHO Janipur, Inspector Sikandar Singh, arrested a suspect, Shubham, of Gurah Qasim Nagar, Bakshi Nagar, Jammu, currently near the Kali Mata Temple, Shiv Nagar, Jammu, while investigating these cases, he said.The SSP Jammu stated that during interrogation, the suspect admitted to his role in the thefts. Upon his admission, the stolen gold, which weighed about 404 grammes (40 tolas) and included 296 grammes taken from areas under the jurisdiction of Bakshi Nagar and Janipur Police Stations, was found in his possession. According to him, the remaining gold was taken under Section 102 of the CrPC. The SSP Jammu went on to say that the accused, who committed multiple thefts in the areas under the control of Police Stations Janipur, Bakshi Nagar, and Domana, deliberately deposited the stolen gold in three separate financial institutions: the Janipur branch of Canara Bank; the Sarwal branch of Manappuram Finance Limited; and the Janipur branches of Muthoot Finance Limited.In response to a question concerning the steps taken against financial institutions that bought gold from dubious sources, the SSP Jammu said, "We're seeking legal opinion from experts on this subject to chargesheet such institutions." SSP Jammu described the accused's method of operation in detail, stating that they thoroughly surveyed every home, focusing on those that had been unattended for a predetermined amount of time. In contrast to rumours, the police officer stated that the accused did not belong to any gang and operated independently. SSP Jammu promised that the police are dedicated to completing the necessary legal procedures to return the remaining gold to its rightful owners as the investigation moves forward. SAMBA : When word spread that a jawan from the village of Joginder Singh, in the Indian Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP), had become a martyr in the Naxalite attack in Chattisgarh, a pall of doom fell over Abtal Katlan, a village close to Samba. The entire family was shocked to learn that Joginder Singh, a brave and promising soldier, had lost his life in an IED blast planted by Naxalites in the Bade Gobra area of the Gariaband district of Chhattisgarh shortly after receiving the message from ITBP Headquarters. We saw the family members crying and lamenting. After learning the news, the entire village was in rude shock and was at a loss for words when it came to consoling the family. Dilip Singh's son, Martyr Joginder Singh, was a courageous and well-behaved soldier.While on duty, he accompanied an ITBP party to pave the way for the polling party to return from Bade Gobra in the Chhatisgarh district of Gariaband. When a soldier manning the polling place stepped on an IED that the naxalites had planted, an explosion happened. Unaware that the Naxalites had planted an IED to destroy the Road Opening Party, the ITBP jawan headed out to retrieve the polling party, only to discover that fate had other plans for him and his comrades. In addition to his ageing parents, Martyr leaves behind his spouse, a nine-year-old son, an older brother, two younger brothers, and a sister. He came from a courageous family—his older brother had also retired from the Army, and his father, Dilip Singh, had also served as a Subedar. While one of his brothers works for the BSF, the other is also serving in the ITBP. DODA: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid visits to the injured residents of the Doda district bus accident and admitted them to the Government Medical College located in Jammu. The injured people's conditions were reported to the Lieutenant Governor. Upon meeting the medical team, he emphasised that every effort should be made to provide the best care possible. On Wednesday, a bus in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, fell into a gorge, resulting in up to 38 fatalities and 19 injuries. About 300 feet downhill, the bus carrying 55 people skidded off the Batote-Kishtwar national highway near Trungal-Assar.In addition, Sinha granted the kin of those who perished in the tragic bus accident an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh apiece. Additionally, he approved Rs. 1 lakh for the injured and promised the impacted families all possible help. He said in a tweet, "The next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the unfortunate bus accident in Assar, Doda, would receive an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each." The injured would receive Rs 1 lakh. The J&K UT Administration will help the impacted families as much as they can."
