JAMMU: Director General of Police R R Swain said on Thursday that despite Jammu and Kashmir having a multi-tier security arrangement, the forces have prepared for every eventuality to guarantee a peaceful Republic Day celebration. Officials stated that the army and BSF troops have enhanced monitoring along the India-Pakistan border, and that police and paramilitary personnel have been placed on high alert throughout the region, especially along the roads, at railway stations, bus stands, and critical infrastructure. "We have addressed every potential threat as well as security. We have also prepared answers for every scenario. We will celebrate this day in peace, we are certain of it," Swain told local reporters. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will speak at a gathering at Jammu's M A Stadium on Friday, Republic Day. Additionally, according to Swain, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has won the most gallantry awards. "It is a matter of great pride and joy that police personnel from J&K have been bestowed with 72 gallantry medals on the eve of Republic Day celebrations," Swain told the press. "The J&K Police has once again distinguished itself by competing with other police forces to safeguard the safety of our citizens and defend the homeland. I commend all officers, men, and recipients of awards," he continued. Swain acknowledged the difficulties the agency is facing and stated that the J&K Police had lost more than 1,600 officers—more than any other security force in the area, including the central armed forces. "This is a benchmark of our commitment to national security efforts," he stated.
