Punjabi singer Gurdas Maan won’t perform in Canada now: ‘Responsible & necessary’

NEW DELHI: Gurdas Maan, a Punjabi musician, has had his trip to Canada cancelled due to the continuing diplomatic dispute between India and Canada. According to the production company, this is the most responsible and practical course of action at this time. Gurdas Maan's tour has been cancelled, the production company announced on Facebook. "In light of the current diplomatic unrest between the two countries and after careful consideration and assessment of the unpredictable circumstances, it has been determined that the cancellation of the event is the most responsible and necessary course of action for the time being," the production house wrote. Between October 22 and October 31, Gurdas Maan was slated to do performances around Canada.But after Canada accused India of killing Hardeep Singh Nijjar there, tensions between the two countries erupted. Congress, NC sweep LAHDC-Kargil polls, win 22 seats

KARGIL: Officials announced on Sunday that the National Conference and the Congress had won a total of 22 seats in the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council-Kargil poll. The first election after Ladakh was divided into a Union Territory as a result of the repeal of Article 370 of the Constitution was held for the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC)-Kargil. On October 4, elections for 26 council seats were held. Four voting members are proposed by the administration for the 30-member council. The National Conference (NC), which is now the single-largest party, got 12 seats, according to the officials, while its ally Congress won 10 seats. According to them, the BJP won two seats and two Independent candidates also won.74,026 of the 95,388 eligible voters cast ballots in the election, yielding a 77.61 percent turnout. On October 1, the current council, led by NC representative Feroz Ahmad Khan, finished its five-year term. Before October 11, the new council will be in place. Railways to set up restaurants in retired trains coaches at Jammu & Katra stations

JAMMU: At the Katra and Jammu train stations, the Indian Railways is transforming two abandoned train cars into restaurants with a specific theme. Old train cars are being renovated and converted into rail coach restaurants as part of a project called "Beautiful Restaurants on Wheels". In Jammu and Katra, two rail-coach restaurants are being constructed. This is an Indian Railways programme whereby outdated coaches are transformed into dining cars. According to Jammu's Divisional Transportation Manager, Prateek Srivastava, two distinct parties have received contracts. He said that the aggregate sales of the two AC restaurants will be Rs. 50 lakh. "Under this plan, we are offering these coaches to private parties to create state-of-the-art restaurants according to their own designs," he stated.The coaches are already in place, and the first coach restaurant is scheduled to debut in December. 'Annapurna' and 'Maa Durga' will have been the names of the two eateries. "The transformation of a coach into a fully operational restaurant will take 90 days. According to Annapurna Restaurant owner Pradeep Gupta, it would be furnished with all necessary amenities. Similar restaurants have already been successfully opened in nine or ten of India's busiest railway stations. "The programme is being tested across the country. IAF must be one of best, if not best by time it completes 100 years in 2032: Air Chief

PRAYAGRAJ: Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari said on Sunday that the Indian Air Force must be ever vigilant in the face of "new and emerging threats" even as he reaffirmed that the IAF will continue to defend the nation's territory and deter potential adversaries. His remarks came amid the eastern Ladakh border dispute. The Chief of Air Staff stated that in the current complicated and dynamic strategic environment, fine-tuning the IAF's strategy, establishing strong capabilities, and cultivating a flexible mindset to "prosecute future wars" will be crucial. He stated that integrated combat power application and joint planning will be the "sine-qua-non" of future wars in a speech to airmen on the occasion of Air Force Day. He also added that "we must reform, or become a relic; we must innovate, or else become mundane, and we must transform, or else become irrelevant." To emphasise the significance of air power in the shifting global security landscape, he stated, "If India is on the path to becoming a developed nation by 2047, then the IAF must be one of the best, if not the best, by the time we complete 100 years in 2032." On October 8, 1932, the Indian Air Force was formally created. The head of the IAF stated, "We need to understand the nuances of evolving air power, setting the pace to preserve peace and if and when necessary, to fight and win wars." "Mainly, I want to encourage you to aim for excellence in whatever you do. This cannot be discussed," he insisted. The Air Chief Marshal argued in favour of "honestly" evaluating the IAF and addressing any resistance to change."The force structure we must create must be prepared for the future. The conditional sine qua non of future battles will be joint planning and integrated application of military power, he predicted. Without going into specifics, the IAF Chief claimed that during the previous year, the force not only "circumvented" obstacles, but also turned them into opportunities. He added that the current geopolitical environment has given the force a chance to lessen its reliance on imports by developing indigenous capability. "In this complex and dynamic strategic environment, refining our strategy, building robust all round capabilities and more importantly, developing a flexible mindset to prosecute future wars will prove decisive," he stated."In our quest for becoming an air and space force, we must recognise the importance of the space domain and continue developing our space capabilities," he stated. In addition, the Air Chief Marshal emphasised the necessity for the IAF to develop into a "agile and adaptable air force that provides decisive aerospace power in furtherance of our national interests." "The world is evolving quickly, and we must take on all upcoming difficulties. In order to combat new dangers, we must maintain a culture of discipline and integrity while also being always alert. "Our commitment to the defence of our nation remains steadfast and we will continue to protect our territory, deter potential adversaries and ensure the safety and security of our people." He described the exercises the IAF had participated in, saying, "In this year alone, the IAF has participated in eight exercises with friendly foreign countries across the globe and performed incredibly well. ITBP rescues 56 people in North Sikkim, search continues

SIKKIM: One of the most hit regions by the flash flood was Chungthang in North Sikkim, where 56 people were evacuated, the ITBP said on Sunday. 52 males and four women were claimed to be among those that were saved. "In another rescue operation, 56 civilians (52 Male & 4 Female) were successfully rescued via the ropeway made by the ITBP Rescue Team in Chungthang, North Sikkim," it stated on Twitter. The 81 persons who vanished in the flash flood are still being sought after. Officials reported that 30 bodies had so far been discovered.According to the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA), the flash flood that was caused by a cloudburst in the early hours of Wednesday affected 41,870 people in four districts of the Himalayan state, with Mangan bearing the brunt of the tragedy as a population of about 30,300 was affected. The three more districts that are impacted are Gangtok, Pakyong, and Namchi. According to the SSDMA, 19 of the fatalities were reported in Pakyong, six in the Gangtok district, four in Mangan, and one in Namchi. Army dogs, special radar, and drones have all been used in the search activities, according to officials.6,875 individuals have sought refuge in the 30 relief camps that have been set up throughout the state, the majority of which are shut off from the rest of the nation, and 2,563 people have been rescued from various locations.
