Armed Forces Ready for ‘Operation Sindoor 2.0’ if Required: Army Chief

PUNE: Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Saturday said the armed forces are fully prepared for “Operation Sindoor 2.0” if the need arises, asserting that all three services are strengthening synergy to meet the challenges of modern multi-domain warfare.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the passing-out parade of the 150th course of the National Defence Academy (NDA), General Dwivedi said that while there is currently a temporary cessation of hostilities, the Army, Navy and Air Force are continuing preparations for any future developments.

“As far as Operation Sindoor is concerned, it is still continuing. There is a temporary cessation of hostilities. The Indian Army and all the three services are preparing well for Operation Sindoor 2.0 if it takes place,” he said.

Operation Sindoor was launched by India in May 2025 to target and destroy terror infrastructure in Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack in April that claimed 26 lives.

Highlighting the changing nature of warfare, the Army Chief said future conflicts would increasingly involve emerging domains such as space, cyber and cognitive warfare, in addition to conventional land, air and sea operations.

General Dwivedi said modern battlefields have become highly transparent, making it essential for military planners to exercise caution in deployments and force protection measures.

“What we have seen over a period of time is 24/7. The battlefield is so transparent that every movement is known to the other side. Therefore, we have to be very cautious in terms of our deployment, in terms of our employment, and the protection which is required to protect our troops as well as the civilians in the border areas,” he said.

He emphasized that the three services are working closely to enhance operational coordination and preparedness to address evolving security challenges.
