Srinagar, Oct 19: In the Budgam area of Jammu and Kashmir, police on Thursday detained a man posing as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and misleading the public, according to officials. On October 18, 2023, a resident of Aalipora Putlibagh named Ghulam Hassan Malik reportedly filed an official written complaint with Budgam Police Station regarding an alleged impersonation scheme. According to police, the applicant said that Ayush Koul, also known as “Vicky,” who lives at Rose Lane No. 6, Rajbagh, Srinagar, had deceived him out of INR 6.5 lakh by pretending to be an IAS officer and using the false pretence to get the applicant’s son hired by the government.An FIR No. 302/2023 was filed in police station Budgam in response to the complaint, in accordance with sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). After the main suspect, Ayush Koul, was captured during the inquiry, it became clear that Koul had an accomplice, Burhan Bashir, a Nundresh Colony, Bemina resident. They said Burhan Bashir and Ayush Koul were also taken into custody. In order to prevent falling victim to fraudulent schemes, police have asked the people to be cautious and watchful, and to confirm the credentials of anyone making such claims.The police urged anyone with relevant knowledge about this case to come forward and help with the current inquiry.
