JAMMU, Aug 13: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Jammu Zonal Unit, seized 438 grams of suspected heroin and arrested a Kathua resident during a high-risk operation in the Lower Ragoora area of Jammu.
Officials said the operation was launched on specific intelligence inputs and the team had to move through wetlands and dense grass along the riverbed to reach the suspects.
During the operation, an associate of the accused allegedly brandished a weapon and threatened the NCB team.
An authorised officer fired 2 warning shots into the air in a safe direction to prevent any harm to the officers, officials said.
No one was injured, while the armed associate managed to escape from the spot.
Officials said the Border Security Force (BSF) provided support during the operation, which was completed with the seizure of the suspected heroin and arrest of the accused.
The seized contraband has been secured and further investigation is underway to establish the forward and backward linkages of the drug network, they said.
