JAMMU: In a swift and compassionate humanitarian response, the Indian Army successfully evacuated a critically ill woman from the remote village of Chill in Udhampur.

On the night of April 18, 2026, at around 2000 hours, a villager approached a nearby Military Operating Base seeking urgent medical assistance for his wife, Sheetla Devi, who was suffering from seizures. Responding promptly, Army troops mobilised under challenging night conditions and reached the residence, where immediate first aid was administered, stabilising the patient in difficult field conditions.

At first light on April 19, a carefully planned evacuation was carried out to shift the patient to the nearest road head at Ghar Katiyas. The operation involved traversing nearly three kilometres of rugged, forested terrain with steep gradients and no motorable access.

Demonstrating exceptional endurance, Army personnel carried the patient on a stretcher for nearly three hours, ensuring her safe evacuation. She was later transported by road to Primary Health Centre Dudu, where she is currently stable and receiving treatment.

The operation highlights the Indian Army’s continued commitment to humanitarian assistance in remote and inaccessible regions, often acting as a crucial first responder in the absence of immediate civil infrastructure.
