SRINAGAR: Officials of the Food Safety Department, Jammu and Kashmir, on Monday busted a racket involved in the manufacture of fake honey and counterfeit desi ghee after tracing a makeshift ‘factory’ operating in Srinagar.
An official said that a team of food safety officers conducted raids at multiple locations in the Barthana and Qamarwari areas of the city. “We recovered a huge quantity of hydrogenated oil that was being used to prepare a mixture sold as desi ghee on the roadside,” he said.
He added that sugar intended for use in a concoction marketed as local honey was also seized during the raid.
The department said further investigation is underway and more details are awaited.
