NEW DELHI: In a significant lead in the Red Fort car blast investigation, Delhi Police sources have confirmed that three cartridges recovered from the scene — two live and one empty — are of 9mm calibre, a category of ammunition restricted for civilian use.
A senior police official said that although the cartridges were found close to the blast site, no weapon or its parts have been located so far.
“These cartridges are generally used by the armed forces or individuals with special authorisation,” the official said, adding that the origin of the ammunition is now a key focus of the probe.
Investigators are exploring whether the suspect had access to the ammunition or if it reached the spot through other means. Forensic teams and security agencies are also examining CCTV footage and material evidence collected from the area.
The blast on November 10 near the Red Fort complex in Delhi killed 12 people and left several injured. With the recovery of the prohibited ammunition, officials say the incident has taken a new investigative direction, raising questions about possible terror or organised crime links.
Further investigation is underway.
