UDHAMPUR : A senior forest officer said that a leopard killed a four-year-old child in the Udhampur district after taking her from her home. Rakesh Sharma, Range Officer of Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Department in Udhampur, reported that people in Upper Banjala hamlet of Panchari tehsil in the district found her mauled dead two km from her home. After obtaining information, senior members of the Jammu and Kashmir Wildlife Department and the Jammu and Kashmir Police hurried to the scene. The range officer indicated that the hunt is still on to find the leopard. Tanu has been named as the dead girl child, he continued. “Our teams launched a search operation after receiving information about the leopard stealing a small girl, but unfortunately we found her dead,” the officer said. We began a thorough search operation in order to capture the wild leopard, which we will do soon. We have prepared the victim’s family’s compensation file. They should be provided appropriate compensation as quickly as possible, he said.
