JAMMU, Feb 15: Acknowledging the immense scale of the gathering in Maha Kumbh, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh today shed light on the critical issue of waste management at the Maha Kumbh.
The Minister who today visited Maha Kumbh Mela along with his family and took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam-the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mystical Saraswati, said with over 50 crore devotees having already participated in Maha Kumbh, an estimated 10 lakh litres of faecal sludge is generated daily.
To address this challenge, he said the Department of Atomic Energy has deployed three prefabricated Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTPs), ensuring efficient disposal of waste and maintaining environmental hygiene. “If such large-scale waste is not managed properly, it could pose severe health risks and even lead to a pandemic,” the Minister stated, commending the dedicated efforts of the sanitation staff.
He emphasized that technological interventions, such as the FSTPs, play a crucial role in keeping the Maha Kumbh clean and safe for pilgrims. Dr Jitendra Singh also praised the Uttar Pradesh Government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, for the seamless organization of the Maha Kumbh. He attributed the scale and efficiency of the event’s management to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
