Soldier Injured In Landmine Blast Near LoC In Poonch

Jammu: officials said on Monday, that an Army personnel was injured in a landmine explosion near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.

The soldier was hurt when the landmine went off after he tripped over it accidentally late on Sunday night while patrolling in a frontline settlement in Kerni area, according to the officials.

The injured man’s condition was described as “stable” and he was reportedly transferred to a military hospital.

The forward areas are littered with landmines as part of an anti-infiltration barrier system, which occasionally get washed away by rains leading to similar mishaps, the officials added.

Between Friday and Sunday, Poonch and other areas of Jammu and Kashmir were pummelling by severe rains, which also claimed the life of two Army men who were carried away while crossing a creek on Saturday in the Poshana neighbourhood of Surankote.

The vigil along the Line of Control and International Border was stepped up in light of the bad weather to impede any attempts by terrorists to cross the border and into the country.

In the meantime, on Monday morning in the Mendhar sector, Gursai top, Shahshidhar, and surrounding areas, the Army and police began a joint search operation.

Late Sunday night, searches were also conducted in the Poonch police station’s jurisdiction in the villages of Noorkote and Nakerkote, which are located in front of the border barrier. The operation lasted for several hours, but no one was detained, according to the officials.
