CBI Registers Case Against 2 Agriculture Ministry Officials In Bribery Case

New Delhi, Nov 27: In a case involving bribery, the Central Bureau of Investigation has filed a complaint against two senior members of the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage (PPQS). Within the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare's Plant Protection Division, the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine, and Storage is an organisation under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare of the Indian government. Sanjay Arya, Joint Director (Plant Pathology), Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage (PPQS), Faridabad, and Padam Singh, the Plant Protection Officer (PPO) at the time, Plant Quarantine, Visakhapatnam, have been identified as the accused parties named in the FIR.According to the formal complaint filed in this case, Sanjay Arya looked into the complaint that Rajesh Acharya had made against Padam Singh, PPO, Plant Quarantine, Visakhapatnam. Rajesh Acharya claimed in the complaint that Padam Singh was pressuring exporters for payment and threatening to cease operations if his demands were not met.Sanjay Arya visited Visakhapatnam in May 2022 as part of the investigation and examined the complainant. According to what we've been told, complainant Rajesh Acharya reiterated that Padam Singh has been extorting money from exporters and hasn't accepted their requests for timely clearance of goods, which has caused delays in stock loading on vessels and resulted in significant losses for them. Additionally, the complaint stated that in May and June of 2022, the complainant sent emails to Sanjay Arya complaining that Padam Singh was refusing to approve their applications and was requesting a Certificate of Appreciation from him.Sanjay Arya suggested closing the complaint after the investigation was finished because there was no evidence to support the allegations. Consequently, it said, the matter has been closed. It went on, "Sources also revealed that Dr. Sanjay Arya accepted Rs. 2 lakh as an undue advantage from Padam Singh in two instances through one Satish Singh in order to give a favourable report in respect of the said enquiry." Centre Convenes All-Party Meeting On Dec 2 Ahead Of Parliament Winter Session

New Delhi, Nov 27: In advance of the Winter Session of Parliament, which is set to start on December 4, the Government has called an all-party meeting for December 2. On December 22, 2023, the Winter session of Parliament will come to an end. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi has summoned an all-party meeting for December 2 on behalf of the government. The all-party meeting is typically called a day before the session starts, but this time it has been postponed by a day because polls are currently being taken in five states on December 3. A day following the announcement of the results of the assembly elections in the five states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, and Telangana, the winter session will take place.It is anticipated that the results of the polls will be discussed in the session. During the session, three significant bills that aim to replace the Evidence Act, the CrPC, and the IPC may be discussed. CJI DY Chandrachud says SC using technology to bring courtrooms closer to people

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court is using technology to bring courtrooms closer to the public, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said on Monday. Online streaming of proceedings has also brought the court into peoples' homes and hearts. Speaking at the inaugural regional conference on legal aid access, Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said the following. 'Access to Legal Aid: Strengthening Access to Justice in the Global South' is the conference's theme. The term "Global South" refers to countries that are thought to have a comparatively low degree of economic and industrial development.Speaking to the audience, CJI stated that India was instrumental in the founding of the Supreme Court of Mauritius and that it had recently inked a Memorandum of Understanding with the Supreme Court of Singapore. CJI stated that he has launched multiple initiatives to improve access to justice during his time as a Supreme Court judge, citing technology as the most effective tool. "We are using it to bring the courtroom closer to people," said the Chief Justice. "Online streaming of proceedings has taken the Supreme Court of India to the hearts and homes of common citizens," the Chief Justice of India stated. It's about creating a welcoming environment in courtrooms, he stated. According to CJI, the global north has monopolised the conversation about human rights, so it is crucial to emphasise that this conference will help to foster greater interaction between the global south's nations. "The Supreme Court of India made revolutionary attempts to increase access to justice through its public interest jurisprudence since the early 1980s," CJI DY Chandrachud stated. The Supreme Court eliminated procedural obstacles, enabling any citizen to petition the court for equitable socioeconomic improvement. Because of its jurisprudence, the Supreme Court is commonly recognised as the court of the people.Our Supreme Court handles all appeals and legal aid infractions with the utmost care." According to CJI DY Chandrachud, "Countries in the global south have been grouped together based on their socioeconomic conditions and legal responses to their colonial past." Our constitutions depart from the justice and constitutionalism language used by most Western countries. Uttarkashi, Nov 27: On the sixteenth day of the operations, a delegation headed by Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Pramod Kumar Mishra assessed the status of the ongoing efforts to free 41 trapped workers in the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi. Pramod Kumar Mishra, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary SS Sandhu, and Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla examined the tunnel's construction. The food supplies sent to the labourers stranded inside the tunnel were another question the Principal Secretary asked. The families of the stranded workers were also addressed by PK Mishra.According to Chris Cooper, a specialist in microtunnelling, all of the auger machine's debris has been removed, and in a few hours, manual drilling will begin to release the trapped labourers. Using a plasma cutter, the auger machine that was being used to drill the tunnel horizontally and became lodged inside the pipe was cut and removed on Monday morning. Lieutenant General Harpal Singh (Retd), a former Army Engineer-in-Chief, defended the manual method by stating that it is the only remaining option for rescuing the trapped workers.Singh claimed that he arrived at the scene to offer technical assistance and support for the ongoing rescue efforts. He continued by saying that every effort is being made to expedite the rescue procedure. Officials say that in order to expedite the rescue, the debris inside the pipe will be removed by hand drilling using the rat hole mining technique. In coal mining, the rat hole mining technique is typically employed, particularly in areas with challenging topography.Six experts have arrived at the location to start the manual drilling process, and eleven individuals will manually remove the debris from the 800 mm tunnel pipe. Along with civilians, the team consists of engineers from the Madras Engineering Group of the Indian Army. Additionally, attempts are being made to enter from the Barkot side of the tunnel, which is the other mouth of the tunnel, in cooperation with the Border Road Organisation and other agencies. Just 10 metres of the 500 metres have been covered after four blasts carried out under BRO's supervision.Additionally, the SJVN will carry out the construction of a small tunnel that the rescuers intend to build along the left side of the tunnel. It will be horizontal and perpendicular to the Silkyara tunnel. On November 12, a section of the tunnel collapsed, trapping 41 labourers within the still-under-construction 60-meter stretch on the Silkyara side of the tunnel. JAMMU, Nov 27: Prodigious Indian para archer Sheetal Devi won the Best Youth Athlete of the Year title at the Asian Awards 2023 in Riyadh on Saturday, November 25, adding to her growing list of firsts. The 16-year-old won the laurel and made history as the first Indian athlete to do so. Sheetal is the first female archer to compete internationally without the use of arms, according to World Para Archery. But she's not just competing. Significant Improvement In Min. Temp at Most Places In Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 27: Even as a dense layer of fog enveloped the valley, authorities reported on Monday that the minimum temperature in the majority of Kashmir saw a notable improvement, offering some respite to the locals from the bitter cold. The only weather station in the valley with a minimum temperature that dropped below freezing at minus 1.2 degrees Celsius was the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir. The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, recorded a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius, according to the officials, up from zero degrees the night before.According to reports, Kokernag town recorded a low of 2.8 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund, the town that serves as the entrance to the valley in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 2.6 degrees Celsius. According to the officials, Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir, saw a low of 1.5 degrees Celsius. In Kupwara town in north Kashmir, the minimum temperature reached a low of -1.8 degrees Celsius. Monday morning the valley was shrouded in a dense fog. The fog, however, did not significantly affect air traffic at the Srinagar airport.According to the Met Office, there will probably be shallow to moderate fog in many areas of Kashmir through Tuesday. The majority of Jammu and Kashmir is expected to continue having cloudy weather through Tuesday, with sporadic light rain or snowfall. Rourkela-Puri Vande Bharat pelted with stones, no one hurt

BHUBANESWAR: Stones have been thrown at the Rourkela-Puri Vande Bharat Express, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) reported in a statement on Monday. On the other hand, it stated that no injuries were reported in the incident that happened on Sunday night in the Dhenkanal-Angul railway section between the stations of Meramandali and Budhapank. "Train number 20835 Vande Bharat Express has been targeted by some stone-pelters between Meramandali and Budhapank in the Dhenkanal-Angul railway section of the Bhubaneswar-Sambalpur rail line," said the statement. According to a railway official, an executive class coach's windowpane was broken, causing the train to arrive at Puri thirteen minutes later than scheduled.He said that a Railway Protection Force (RPF) official had reported the incident. He said that the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have been notified by the security wing of ECoR, which has taken the situation seriously. The official stated that the local police have also been notified of the situation and that the stone-pelters will face severe consequences. He said that the ECoR's security wing is working with the local police to identify the offenders. Srinagar, Nov 27 : The war against terrorism in Uttar Pradesh is still ongoing, according to Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir RR Swain, who stated on Monday that a war ends only when one side concedes defeat. Speaking to reporters outside of a gathering at this Gurdwara Chattipadshahi, DGP Swain stated that the fight against terrorism in J&K is still ongoing. "A conflict only comes to an end when one of the sides concedes defeat and realises that more deaths will not solve the issue. Thus, even though we occasionally suffer setbacks, we will not give up on the fight against terrorism, the DGP declared.He asserted that there was no chance of the police reversing course in the ongoing war on terrorism. MeT predicts rain, snow in Kashmir on 29-30 Nov

NOV 27, 2023 SRINAGAR: By the end of the month, the Meteorological Department has forecast light rain or snow in sporadic to fairly widespread locations in Kashmir. Partly cloudy weather is predicted for December 1 through December 5. Some parts of Kashmir saw a minor improvement in the minimum temperatures, even with the cloud cover. Over the next 24 hours, the weather is expected to stay mostly cloudy and dry, with some areas in the Kashmir division possibly experiencing light to moderate fog through November 28. Srinagar recorded a low of 0.0°C today, slightly higher than the previous night's -1.0°C. With a low of -1.8°C, Pahalgam was still the coldest place; however, Qazigund, Kokerng, Kupwara, and Gulmarg also reported different temperatures from the night before.
