New Delhi, Nov 28: A parliamentary panel has stated that the government may think about enacting suitable legal protections for healthcare professionals, who occasionally experience violence from family members or companions of patients. A memorandum submitted by various medical associations asked the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, chaired by BJP member Brij Lal, to introduce provisions under Clause 115 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to penalise acts of violence against healthcare service personnel. The committee then examined the three proposed criminal laws. In its report, the committee stated that evidence was presented to the panel indicating that, in contrast to other professions, healthcare workers are susceptible to “violent attacks” from patient relatives in situations where patients pass away while receiving treatment.The medical associations informed the committee that there is a need to establish some legal protections for healthcare workers because violent attacks against them are common across the nation. The Union Home Ministry responded by saying that there is no distinction made in the penal laws for any class of people and that all are subject to the general penal provisions. The home ministry emphasised that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law. The state has a duty to safeguard the lives of all of its citizens, including medical professionals and other professionals like advocates, bankers, chartered accountants, and media personnel.The home ministry noted that making special provisions for physicians and other health care workers might lead to demands of a similar nature from other professions, including advocates, bankers, chartered accountants, and members of the media. The committee was also advised by the home ministry that the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare is considering introducing a "Medical Professionals Act" to protect healthcare workers from violent attacks. The home ministry promised to get an update from the Ministry on this matter.The committee stated that it "opines that the government may consider introducing appropriate legal safeguards for healthcare workers after considering the concerns of the healthcare personnel." According to Clause 115 of the BNS, anyone who intentionally causes harm will be punished with either type of imprisonment for a term that may not exceed seven years, as well as a fine, if the harm is grievous harm that he intends to cause or knows himself to be likely to cause.Along with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS-2023) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA-2023) bills, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS-2023) bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 11. The three proposed laws aim to supersede the Indian Evidence Act of 1872, the Indian Penal Code of 1860, and the Code of Criminal Procedure Act of 1898, in that order. Light rain, snow likely in J&K over next three days: Weatherman

SRINAGAR: Over the next three days, the Meteorological Department (MeT) forecasted light rain and snow in a number of locations throughout Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. A spokesman for the MeT department released the following statement: "November 27–28: Generally cloudy with light rain or snow in isolated areas. 29th and 30th: Mostly cloudy, with light to moderate rain or snow in most areas and the chance of thunderstorms or lightning in a few." He predicted that the first week of December would likely bring more cloud cover. In reference to the weather, he stated that cloud cover had caused a notable improvement in the minimum temperature over several stations in the Kashmir division. Additionally, the MeT Department stated that there is a good chance of shallow to moderate fog over many areas of the Kashmir Division through November 28. NOV 28, 2023 :During a visit to a gurdwara in New York over the weekend, India's ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, was heckled. An American Sikh body has denounced this behaviour and called on the shrine's administration to take firm measures against those responsible. Sikhs of America said in a statement released on Monday that gurdwaras are houses of worship and shouldn't be associated with any particular political viewpoint. On the occasion of Gurpurab, Sandhu prayed on Sunday at the Hicksville gurdwara in Long Island, New York. Videos of the incident that are making the rounds on social media show him being heckled and asked questions about Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was killed in Canada in June of this year, by a group of supporters of the movement, at the gurdwara. Members of the Sikh community escorted the hecklers out. President Kanwaljit Singh Soni and founder Jasdip Singh Jassee of Sikhs of America issued a joint statement saying, "We urge the management of the Gurdwara Sahib to take strict actions against these miscreants so that peace-loving Sikh Community in New York can come to gurdwaras freely without any fear or pressure." "When Ambassador Sandhu visited the Gurdwara Sahib for prayer, the administration gave him a Saropa Sahib in recognition of his visit. Following that, a few miscreants attempted to offend him and disrupt the sacredness and tranquilly of the Gurdwara Sahib. According to the statement, gurdwaras are houses of worship and shouldn't be associated with any particular political ideology."Sikhs of America, the leading Sikh organisation in the USA, strongly condemns the disrespect of a Sikh devotee, Ambassador of India to USA Taranjit Singh Sandhu in a Gurdwara in Long Island, NY yesterday," it read. Despite the impression that Khalistanis were against Sandhu, he was welcomed with open arms at the Gurdwara in Hicksville. During his address, Sandhu—who was joined by the consul general of India in New York, Randhir Jaiswal, and the deputy consul general, Varun Jeph—highlighted the expansion of the alliance between the US and India in the fields of healthcare, energy, IT, new and developing technologies, semiconductors, and education. The Indian envoy also discussed the historical connections between Afghanistan, Sikhs, and Sikh Gurus. He mentioned that Afghan Sikhs have demonstrated how to overcome hardships. He mentioned that in August 2021, following the Taliban's capture of the war-torn nation, three Saroops of the Sikh scripture Guru Granth Sahib were transported from Kabul to Delhi. Theft case solved, 7 stolen bikes recovered in Rajouri

RAJOURI: A team of police from the Rajouri Police Station has cracked a theft case, and the accused parties have been taken into custody. The motorcycles that were reported stolen were found inside the arrested suspects' belongings. According to the police, Syed Ibrar Hussain, the son of Sabar Hussain Shain, reported in writing that some unknown individuals had taken his motorbike, registered under the number JK11E 6764, from Kheora, close to the mosque. Therefore, a police team led by SHO Aejaz Wani filed a case FIR No. 528/2023 U/Ss 379 IPC at Police Station Rajouri and began an investigation.One juvenile suspect (name withheld) was apprehended during the investigation, and upon questioning, he confessed to the crime along with his associate, Mohd Saleem, a Sarano resident and the son of Mohd Yousif. The two defendants were taken into custody. Up to seven motorcycles, including the one that was stolen from Kheora, have been found and seized thus far after their disclosure. The matter is still being investigated. Srinagar, Nov 27 :According to authorities, seven students from an agricultural university were detained here on Monday under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) for allegedly cheering the Indian cricket team's defeat in the World Cup final and yelling offensive slogans. According to the officials, the youths who were arrested are enrolled in classes at the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST)–Kashmir. Following an investigation by police into a complaint from a non-local student, who claimed his collegemates had harassed him and yelled offensive remarks after India lost the cup and final match to Australia, the students were taken into custody. DM, SSP review security scenario in border areas of district

JAMMU: The District Level Standing Committee on Security met on Monday, and District Magistrate Sachin Kumar Vaishya gave a review of the security situation in Jammu District's border areas. The Indo-Pakistan Border areas were thoroughly reviewed and a number of important issues were discussed during the meeting. The Indian Army and paramilitary officers present at the meeting, along with SSP Jammu Dr. Vinod Kumar, gave a thorough report on the security situation and the measures taken to prevent any enemy attempts at mischief.The DM specifically asked about the state of security and the steps being taken to stop enemy forces from trying to infiltrate or violate the ceasefire. He recognised the security forces' contribution to maintaining the region's peace and tranquilly as well as protecting the border. The DM emphasised the importance of development in border areas, emphasising improved connectivity and basic amenities for border residents given the particular difficulties their demographics present. He declared that the government is dedicated to raising the standard of living of border residents by providing all necessary infrastructure and amenities.The DM gave the district officers instructions to visit the border areas on a prearranged basis on a regular basis to monitor saturation and the implementation of government programmes, as well as to gather input on the complaints and demands of the local populace. It was instructed to the officers to continue working closely with the security services as well. The government will stop at nothing to address the concerns and goals of border citizens, Sachin Kumar emphasised. In order to preserve peace, law, and order in the border regions, he also urged the populace to work with the government and the security forces.The border areas are receiving special attention from the district administration due to the various challenges that the local people face. In addition to other officers, Sub Divisional Magistrates and Executive Engineers attended the meeting. Arms, ammunition recovered in Kupwara; 2 held

KUPWARA: According to an official statement released by the Indian Army, two people were arrested on Monday following the discovery of weapons and ammunition in the Kupwara district. According to the Indian Army, a Mobile Vehicle Interception Post (MVIP) was set up at Kupwara's Gushi Bridge as part of Operation GUSHI.
