JAMMU: The Traffic Police Jammu have announced temporary night-time traffic restrictions on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) to facilitate ongoing road relaying and improvement works on the crucial Nachlana stretch in Ramban district.
According to a traffic advisory issued by the Traffic Police, the District Magistrate, Ramban, through Order No. ADMR/542-54 dated June 10, 2026, has granted permission to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to undertake bituminous relaying works during night hours on June 12, 14 and 16 at various locations, including the critical Nachlana stretch on NH-44.
In view of the scheduled works, traffic movement between Nashri and Navyug Tunnel will remain suspended from 10 pm to 5 am on the intervening nights of June 12-13, June 14-15 and June 16-17.
Authorities have imposed strict movement restrictions to ensure the smooth execution of the project.
As per the advisory, no vehicle of any category will be allowed to proceed from Udhampur towards Ramban, Banihal and Srinagar after 5 pm on the notified dates.
Similarly, no vehicle will be permitted to move from Qazigund towards Banihal, Ramban, Udhampur and Jammu after 8 pm during the restriction period.
The Traffic Police have advised passengers and Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) operators to undertake their journeys during daytime hours and avoid night travel on the highway.
The advisory noted that the risk of shooting stones, landslides, movement of nomadic groups towards the Kashmir Valley and ongoing construction activities between Ramban and Banihal could cause inconvenience and pose safety concerns for commuters.
Officials said the temporary restrictions are essential for the safe and timely completion of the highway improvement works, which are expected to enhance road conditions and facilitate smoother traffic movement on the vital road link connecting Jammu and Kashmir.
Transporters carrying fresh perishable commodities and livestock have been urged to plan their travel schedules in advance to avoid delays caused by the restrictions.
Travellers intending to use the highway on June 13, 15 and 17 have also been advised to check the latest traffic updates before commencing their journeys.
For traffic-related assistance and emergency information, commuters can contact the Traffic Control Unit (TCU), Jammu, on 0191-2459048, 0191-2740550, 9419147732, or dial 103.
The Traffic Police have sought public cooperation, emphasizing that the temporary curbs are being imposed in the larger interest of public safety and to facilitate the successful completion of the road improvement project.
