SRINAGAR, Nov 26: According to officials on Sunday, the minimum temperature in the majority of Kashmir’s locations rose above freezing, offering some respite to the locals from the bitterly cold weather. Every weather station in the valley had a minimum temperature that was above freezing, with the exception of Pahalgam and Kupwara. The summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar, reportedly recorded a minimum temperature of zero degrees Celsius, up from minus one degree Celsius the night before, according to the officials.They claimed that a low of 0.5 degrees Celsius was recorded at the well-known ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir. According to the officials, the minimum temperature in Qazigund, the town that serves as the entry point to the south Kashmir valley, was as low as minus 0.6 degrees Celsius, and the lowest temperature in Kokernag town was 1.5 degrees Celsius. At minus 1.8 degrees Celsius, the tourist destination of Pahalgam in the south Kashmir Anantnag district was the coldest place in the valley, down from minus 3.4 degrees the night before. In the north Kashmiri town of Kupwara, the minimum temperature dropped to minus 0.7 degrees Celsius.According to the Met Office, Sunday’s weather is expected to be mostly dry and partly to generally cloudy. From Monday through November 30, there is a chance of light rain or snow in isolated to dispersed locations in the higher regions of Kashmir, according to the report.
