IMPHAL: officials said that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday visited two relief camps at Moirang in Manipur’s Bishnupur district, party.Around 9.30 am, Gandhi took a chopper from Imphal to Moirang, where he met several impacted individuals and heard about their hardship. According to party sources, each of the camps Gandhi visited is home to about 1,000 people. Former Manipur Governor Okram Ibobi Singh, Party General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal, PCC President Keisham Meghachandra Singh, and former Member of Parliament Ajay Kumar were in attendance with Gandhi.Historical records indicate that the INA raised the Indian tricolour in Moirang in 1944. Gandhi would also meet with intellectuals and members of civil society in Imphal during the day, according to them. In Churachandpur, one of the hardest hit towns by the ethnic riots that has ravaged the northeastern state for the past two months, he toured relief camps on Thursday. High drama occurred throughout the journey when the local police in Bishnupur stopped his convoy of automobiles out of concern that they would come under attack. Gandhi eventually made a U-turn and used a helicopter to descend to Churachandpur. The Congressman is in Manipur for two days to “bring a healing touch” to the locals.
