EC Orders Suspension Of Telangana DGP Hours After He Meets State Cong Chief Amid Vote Counting

New Delhi, Dec 3: According to sources, the Telangana Director General of Police (DGP), Anjani Kumar, was suspended by the Election Commission on Sunday for violating the model code of conduct during the state’s vote counting. They said that during the vote-counting process, the DGP presented bouquet of flowers to Anumula Revanth Reddy, the state Congress president and candidate, at his Hyderabad home, accompanied by state police nodal officer Sanjay Jain and nodal officer (expenditure) Mahesh Bhagwat.According to insiders, the DGP’s decision to meet one of the 2,290 candidates running for office and the leading candidate of one of the 16 political parties involved was blatant sign that he was attempting to curry favour. They said that DGP Kumar has been suspended by the electoral body. Results and trends from the assembly poll indicated that the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) was going to lose power in Telangana to the Congress.
